My experience, for what it is worth is as follows:
1. Pump delivery is an issue, it seems that some pumps "froth" the fuel more than others. The frothing of gasoline is largely due to the additives added by the various suppliers, all are very different.
2. The flap valve must be in the 12 O'Clock position. Even then with some fuels filling up is a real pain.
3. I use premium grade fuel, my preferred supplier is Shell, simply because irrespective of site it seems that I can fill up almost as quickly as with the Merc. BP is OK, tends to be a bit slower. Tesco is a supplier of last resort. I have, on a number of occasions, given up after putting 5 to 10L in and then gone elsewhere.
Why are Morgan's so sensitive? I think it is because the filler is so close to the tank, so foaming really causes a problem. On the Merc I measured the distance from filler to tank, which is under the back seat, it is almost 60cm. The Plus 8 is 20cm.
So, my conclusion is that the blowback is a "characteristic" of the design of the Trad Morgan coupled with the nature of modern fuel and the emission controls that stop fuel vapour escaping.
