Just as precaution...I'm planning to replace the the original motorcraft HT coil fitted on my 1974 4/4. I was just thinking of using a standard Lucas dlb 102 (not sure if that is correct?), but does anyone else have a recommendation for supplier or spec?

btw - I'm not looking to add a sports coil as the engine is standard, and still using points ignition. I might look at electronic in the future though...

What do you think?

The DLB105 is the one I fitted to my car approx 15 years ago and never had a problem with it. In fact, improved starting and idling.

Cheaper than a DLB102 as well!

Kind regards

Arwyn

Have you given any thought to converting to electronic ignition. I replaced the distributor and coil with Pertronix products on my 79' 4/4 1600GT. They work well in my opinion. Also replaced the wires with updated ones.

I have done similar but still have the coil and ballast.

I changed my coil a while ago to DLB105 - many suppliers on the web.

I went for an Aldon electronic distributor with their Flamethrower coil which has run flawlessly for the last 15 years.

Glad to hear. I just updated mine a few months ago. I was hoping it was a good, long term investment and my Flamethrower looks like the original coil. Thanks,
