When I moved house 11 years ago as a single bloke my only brief to the Estate Agent was..." Must have a Dishwasher" ( and no I did not mean a female one!!).

We've never had a dishwasher and to be honest we don't have the space.

About 3 months ago our old built in oven packed in. Flames inside but no other damage. We were due to move house not long afterwards. Went to Currys for a quick replacement and bought a cheapish one. No problems at all with delivery/fitting. Oven worked fine. Sales chap even got us a small discount.
New house....nedw kitchen...Leekes as they did a good deal and we had our previous one there 15 years ago. Big problems with delivery. No sink, no dishwasher, breakfast bar leg too small, handles missing, no worktop edging. Frustrating conversations on phone due to short time to moving in. No communications from them. Alternative sink ordered by them as the one we wanted had a 2 week lead time so too late. It was delivered direct to new house and luckily I was there doing some jobs as no message to say it was coming. Got fobbed off by customer "lack of care" so am sending messages upstream. The kitchen units came direct from manufacturer and were perfect, it was just the Leekes supplied stuff that we had issues with.
Kitchen is now fine with a small bit of tiling left to do by myself.

A firm whose delivery times are all over the place and whose goods are faulty. I can't think who it reminds me of.

Well Currys just called. The dishwasher they show on their website with a white front they can't deliver. Order cancelled & dishwasher from AO now ordered for delivery Friday.

Now lets see how long they hold onto my money

Curry's are the worst. I once was asking about a product in-store, which the salesman knew absolutely nothing about - but he could tell me everything I didn't want to know about extended warranty!

As far as I can see, all these large companies give a pretty rubbish service, and seem to justify it on the basis that they are cheaper.

We always use our local high street white goods shop. Back in the summer we needed a new washing machine. Mr Hurn delivered a new Miele machine, unpacked it, removed the old machine, installed the new one, checked that it worked properly, gave us a lesson on how to get the best out of it, and took away the old machine for disposal. His price was about £50 more than Curry's base cost.

Do yourselves a favour guys and support your local businesses.

The trouble is Tim, local traders are becoming rarer by the week. As Oscar Wilde said of the cynic - he knows the cost of everything but the value of nothing.
