2 weeks ago I went to the Bicester event... and arrived with oil flowing over the front.
Fortunately...
- there was a shop open at the event which sold oil
- and a bendy filler funnel
- and I didn't drop the oil cap into the wing, in spite of the windchill taking the temperature below zero
And I set off homewards, gently.
About 12 miles into the trip, the engine cut out. In the outside lane of the A34, at 70.
Fortunately, there was space to get to the verge before the car lost momentum, and I found myself at the end of a slip road. So that worked out much better than it might have.
Williams kindly opened up on a Sunday afternoon to receive the car from the breakdown truck.
It turns out the trailing edge of the bumper had worn through the oil cooler. And when the engine came up to temperature, and the flow through the oil cooler started, oil pressure must've dropped/disappeared, and the ECO shut off everything to protect the engine.
So I'd recommend checking the clearance between your bumper's trailing edge & the oil cooler.
