My fuel pump died but it took a few last gasps for it to go. It wouldn't pump then it would but not for long. Something inside just gives up and it becomes deceased.

I don't know about England but it is very hard to find alcohol free benzine in the states and it has been pointed out elsewhere that alcohol will eat the seals in the pump leading to failure.

So with a new pump installed I search out alcohol free benzine wherever possible.

Just wondering which pump is fitted to your respective models? I have converted my 1961 Plus 4 (TR3) to a Facet Cube low pressure electric fuel pump and ditched the standard mechanical pump. The Facet pumps are from the USA and I am hoping I have made the right choice. Do They suffer from seals breaking down?

Nev.

According to the parts manuals, there have been no changes with the fuel pump part number U280003 which, I believe, is a Range Rover or Land Rover origination.

Even this usage is a kludge in that one has to snip off the swing arm float that is the fuel gauge half of the pump before fitting. The fuel gauge is a separate entity.

Your description sounds like my fuel pump failure. Engine quit dead, no pops, bangs or burbles. Had it trucked home. A new fuel pump fixed it.

If your Facet Cube fuel pump is less than 10-15 years old it will have seals that can withstand the 10-15% ethylene fuel that most Americans are forced to use. But the material in these seals is fine for use with non-ethylene gasoline.

The Facet is a great pump but I don't think Facet makes one that puts out 58 Psi, you need for fuel injection

Just when you thinks all's well these little beasties will remind you who's boss.

If it's intermittent then hopefully it's just a dodgy earth or connector somewhere in the system.

Worth checking the intertial cutout as well - mine was forever tripping so is now cable tied shut.
