Had the MOT done today and all passed with flying colours and no advisories.
But we did spot a bit of end play in the front U Joint and I am getting some slight cluncks under certain conditions.
Nothing serious but it will need doing sooner of later.
So the question is how do you remove the prop-shaft so it can be dismantled to change the U Joint.
It disappears above the floor boards in the tunnel and emerges at the axle end.
At first glance it seems the floor boards would need to be removed but surely there's an easier way.
Anybody done it or can anyone point me to an old post which describes the job?

Seats out, gearbox cover and propshaft tunnel out, undo the prop from the axle, slide it out the gearbox....
Almost sounds easy

On mine you can do this as above but not touching the interior....newer cars may of course be different.

Oh Bu**er. Maybe I'll wait until I take the engine and gearbox or axle out.

I'm trying to understand what you and Richard are suggesting. If you don't touch the interior how do you withdraw the shaft because the floor boards are below it?

There's a gap in the floorboards which gives access to the rear of the gearbox and the front u/j on the propshaft. Later car, but it's like this.

What Simon H has suggested is not difficult, it is just amatter of nuts and bolts. Had to do this when replacing the remote support rubbers on the gearbox.

How easily do the leather gearbox and tunnel covers come off?
Are they glued on or do they just lift off?

The leather cover is usually held by lift the dots and duradots.
