I am in the process of upgrading my cams and wanted to double check what direction the pinion bolt turns to loosen it. I don't want to break anything and the S&S manual does not seem to say. Also I am assuming I don't need an air impact gun and a traditional ratchet/socket combo should work to take it off.

Appreciate any guidance on this.

Well figured it out. Lefty loosey kind of thing. Interesting though my cam tensioner circle thing is a bit dented in for about a half inch. pretty odd. Hopefully S&S will send me one under warranty as my morgan has very few miles on it.

There are two methods to disassemble camshafts, the S & S method of removing the crankcase with the three camshafts to unlock the sprocket nuts.

the second method is to manufacture a suitable tool to immobilize the distribution gears without the damaged because the distribution belt does not last long with damaged gears

disassembly is relatively simple when you have the knowledge and the appropriate tooling

I do not advise you to do the job yourself if you are not sure of the result, the original camshaft may work better than the following.

The method described in the work shop manual requires no special tools and is reasonably straight forward. Take care with the crankshaft seal, it can easily be damaged and leak afterward. You will need 4 magnetic parts finders (magnet on the end of extender) to hold the lifters out of the way. The intake and injectors currently in place will work fine. G56 pipes or de baffled stock pipes help as does a G56 air cleaner housing. An unlocked ECU with upgraded firmware from S&S would be of benefit also.
The power increase is noticeable but S&S says you don’t really feel a big hit until you start increasing the displacement. Since you say your car is low mileage, your current valve springs should be adequate.

Sounds great. Got the cams off the cam plate tonight so moving along. Just checking on the lifters as one fell out as the magnet was not well positioned. is there a certain way the lifter goes back up or pretty much push it back up and make sure the roller is aligned left to right?

The other issue is the belt tension round thing is dented on the edge so I will need to order a new one. Not fun as that is a spendy little devil.

Everything on this engine is speedy!!
According to S&S, the lifter will work in either orientation so long as the roller is aligned with the cam lobe. In looking at the lifter, you will see that it is “waisted” (indented around the middle). This allows oil to flow around it and flow into the hole in the side of the lifter.
Good practice is put it back as it was (stay with established wear pattern), otherwise, align it to operate properly on the cam and push back up into the bore.

After a few delays my cam and ecu upgrade is complete. The ECU was from garage 56 and the cams from Curtis at wild steed worx. Service on both ends were superb.

Unfortunately all finished up and now it is raining 😢 though took a quick run. Different then before it has a much broader useable powerband as the engine runs very strong all through the rpm range. Very smooth running and starting. I still need to do a dyno tune but very happy with the upgrade.

I love mine with the cam and ECU upgrade! the engine just sounds like it's singing a happy song now. the torque curve is fantastic, not just for extra 'go' but for the drivability and all round more fun drive

I went down a similar upgrade route and the rollers were the icing on the cake 😀
