My 1972 4/4 1600 was at BHM today for a service and MOT. They discovered a "pinhole" leak from the top radiator outlet to the header tank which I'm told can be repaired by soldering. Borough Green is a long way from home and I assume that radiator soldering is not a specialist Morgan task so wondered whether I could get it done more locally.

I'd be grateful for any recommendations for such work in the Hampshire/West Sussex area, please.

Many thanks

Mark

Not sure if Serck Services still trade but they were a national radiator supplier and repairer.

Yellow Pages job or may be a friendly plumber

If the pinhole is not too bad you could also consider a dab of epoxy resin but others might consider that a bodge

Any radiator repairer can do that job - there is nothing special about a Morgan radiator.

FWIW I have a heat exchanger on my boat - it is in effect a radiator but instead of air flowing through it, it has sea water. Before I bought the boat in 2009 the owner had bodged a repair of the stack of tubes in the heat exchanger by using epoxy resin. To my surprise, that reapir still hold water and pressure tight today. Seems to be every bit as good as solder.

Perhaps I should go onto the PBO forum and ask which expoxy I should use - that would elicit more answers than there are choices of expoxy!

I’ve always wondered what my motto should be when I get my peerage. All I need t do now is figure out how to incorporate home cured bacon, home made sausage and bread, my boat and my Morgan into a heraldic shield and await the call!

JB Weld will fix that easily.

The proper description of a bodge is "Temporary Repair".

I once congratulated an RAC man on a fantastic bodge when my friends County 90 lost the power feed to the diesel fuel pump.
The cable had chafed under the transmission tunnel in an inaccessible place.

"That's not a bodge" he said, clearly defensive, "It's a temporary repair".

Only a bodge when it fails.
