Anyone got ideas of what to check?

2016 4/4, wipers are fine for a minute or two, then seem to struggle and stop.

Left for a short while,( but longer each time I try), they will work again for a shorter period, then conk out once more.

Mine was due to dirty pins in the multipin connector behind the steering wheel. There is also another on the wiper motor itself that is worth checking.

The wiper motor does struggle a bit to handle the 3 wipers. I have had it cut out when the screen gets dry after entering a tunnel. I think there must be some sort of cutout if it gets too hot.

Thanks chaps, I’ll check the connections and if not that, i’ll see if I can adjust anything then. I don’t think it’s actually a dud, I doesn’t get hot nor blow any fuses.

I've run mine on two blades for a couple of years, think it works more efficiently. Could be wishful thinking.

The plastic connector blocks under the bonnet by firewall nearside are a common problem, un plug and spray with switch cleaner.

I have just got my car back having had it serviced and the windscreen wipers sorted (I hope). Symptoms were similar to yours. Random failure to operate, slow movement, stopping during operating. Dealer changed the motor, relay and column switch but it still played up. Final effort was to take out the drive mechanism ,clean it and free it up, change grease in the spindle boxes. This seems to have cured it but time will tell.

I’ve yet to poke around at them, been a bit busy at work, but the twisty route of the drive cable could well be the issue. I’d actually be happy enough with a manual override system......ie. a lever connected directly to the wiper arms. laugh2

The wiper motor is one of the poorest quality parts in the Morgan. The original was once by Lucas. Today one has to say, that was best quality...in comparison. The current Wiper engine is some Asian replica of Lucas.

I already have a new one. The old one killed the fuse every three days. But in one aspect, the new is as bad as the old. There is creep voltage and this strongly disturbs the FM reception. There is always background noise, as if the transmitter were very far away.
When you listen to the radio without ignition, everything is fantastic. When the ignition is switched on, then the wiper motor is under electric current and the radio reception becomes noisy.
There is a stop switch or breaker in the motor. This ensures that the motor of the wiper does not always run. But it doesn't isolate properly and acts like a buzzer. This is the source of FM interference.
