I will be driving my Morgan in 100+ heat at times (hopefully not very often...) and am very concerned about overheating. I think that the stock fan would by to wimpy for the California heat. I installed a Morgan-Spares high volume cooling fan, but am unhappy with the amount of noise it makes at highway speeds. I want to install electric fans, like I did on my TR3. Unfortunately, there are clearance issues.
The previous owner of my 1953 Flat Rad modified the radiator so it would be removable from the flat rad grill. This would make it so you wouldn't have to take a torch to your chrome if you wanted the radiator worked on. It was always a tight fit for a flat rad between the water pump shaft and the radiator anyway. There is probably only a 1/2" gap there now.
Has anyone with a flat rad +4 fitted electric cooling fans? How did you do it?
I have been looking at 5" diameter fans (both Derale and Spal) and would put in two, one on each side of the water pump shaft. But they are just too wimpy at 315 cfm.

I also found some badass 6" fans, but there isn't sufficient room to get them to fit on either side of the water pump shaft.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you are to be driving on the level open road and not stopped in log jammed traffic much, I doubt whether you really need those fans at all. In my experience the heat only builds up at very low speed.
The other thing you might consider doing is to wrap the exhaust manifold pipes with insulation to keep the engine bay temperature down.

I wonder if it might help to increase the airflow by standing the bonnets off from their locating catches as they do with some of the racing Plus8's.

This question is ringing a bell and I think someone suggested and or had fitted one in front of the radiator where a little more clearance was available.

I fabricated a complete new aluminium radiator and shortened the water pump pulley which allowed a fan to be fitted behind the radiator

Even then it was a squeeze!

Using Simon H's approach but a "Flex-A-Lite" universal fan/shroud You might have and easier fit. Although the Flex has less FPM the shroud seems to make it work. It is a bit thinner than a SPAL.

The Morgan Spares unit is a "Flex-A-Lite" plastic fan blade cut down. On My +4 I have it cut down but more radical than the MS Unit as well as a custom made sheet metal shroud. I also try to stay out of 100 degree weather.

On a +4 TR engine the tuning is very critical regarding heat generating. The timing must be spot on and the carbs set properly. This IMO is more Art than Science.
