Whats the belt part number please? Mine looks a little shoddy. I guess it's a Gates.

Would Matts machine shop the best supplier?

Thanks in advance.

A similar picture of a modified one. As you say, the crankshaft bolt is the easy way to identify if it has been modified. The vented front cover is not done as part of the modification, although the vent slots are easy enough to cut out yourself.

Just realised that I put the above photo on before, whoops. Cam belt is S&S p/n 106-0571 and Gates p/n 37-0014. It was £82.17 +VAT from Matts Machine Shop about 18 months ago, guessing a bit more from MMC. Is the belt "looking a little shoddy" anything to do with the "snake skin" debris that is normal? Its a belt release agent from manufacture and not a problem.

Twice, now,in 7000km,the front cover on my M3W has been smashed by the lowest bolt unscrewing.Anyone else had it happen twice??Would certainly recomend the fitting of the upgrade kit.I real
ize it dosnt harm the engine, but its still a flippin nuisance

Smaug, I replied in the 'general photo gallery' where you posted this photo. My bolt didn't come through the cover, it sheared off the drive keys. Up to that point it appeared to be tight. The mod kit from MMC includes a new tensioner and belt. I took some photos of the complete kit and what happened to mine, here http://summer2016westmog.wordpress.com/

I thought it worth refreshing this thread because some of the photos included by others have been lost due to the Photobucket debacle. However it is still important for anyone with an older (2015 and earlier) car to know the status of their timing chamber hardware to ensure long term reliability.

This Pinion Pulley Replacement Procedure will enable you to ascertain whether you need to upgrade the pinion pulley, how to do it and what tools will be needed. I've tried to spell it out for beginners like me, so I apologise if it is a bit basic for advanced spanner jockeys!

I believe this document will also be available to view from the MTWC website.
Please let me know if you spot any mistakes or omissions.

Andy, THANK YOU!!!

My replacement cam shaft belt (with less than 4000 miles on it) is showing cracks and has to be replaced again. I understand S&S now makes a vented cover and I was going to get a new belt and that cover. Now I will get the pulley upgrade kit as well as I have the old-style Torx head bolt still.

No need for a new cover just ditch the gasket & refit with spacer washers on the cover set screws.
