I checked the Plus 8.

Rear fog light comes on only when the ignition and headlights are selected. Dip, or Main, it stays on.

I agree that MMC electronics are not the best. The Plus 8, in 4 short years, has had the PCB that carries all the warning lights, the row above the switches, and now the PCB that carries the warning lights between the fuel and temperature gauges. The first was under warranty, the second cost £90.00 fitted, inc VAT. I was pleasingly surprised.

I came close to rewiring my rear foglight couple of years ago.
I had traced the failure to the control unit behind the dash. The pcb/logic board had failed.
In February I contacted Melvyn ( if anyone would have one...... ).
Had to send photos as no ID numbers.
It was a factory supply unit.
By September, no signs, despite a query to the factory. They had replacements for 1997 or earlier but not post 1997.
Was told not suitable as a replacement. I was close to trying one for kitcar builders or rewiring to have power from dip/main supple circuit with an on/off switch to comply with only on when dip/main.
I examined the pcb and saw two solder joints that didn’t look good, so resoldered and it has worked since.The pcb would reset the lights to off when dip/main off so reselect was needed. It was to prevent forgetful people leaving rear fogs on when they deselected dip/main.
A typical Morgan experience re spares?

Did you call Krazy Horse? Dan in the workshop fixed my pcb... although that was the heater fan issue... another known potential issue with your type of pcb. But they were trying to fix a fog light switch for another customer with the same pcb. I don't know how they got on though. In my case it was the under specced fly back diodes and I can see that the fog light has the same relay and diode. Just a thought.

We use them now and then, different industry but a PCB is a PCB.

This throws up a slightly off-thread question.

I didn't think they used any fancy PCBs in Morgans in the 90's so I wonder if I've got the wrong idea of what the PCBs do.

Can older cars, say from the 90's still have PCBs for individual functions even though they don't have the fancy modern dashboard systems?

I've been gloating in the thought that I won't have all these PCB problems on my turn of the century car but maybe there are some lurking, waiting to trick me, behind my supposedly simple dashboard.

I suppose it might come down to how you define a PCB from a very simple individual switching circuit to a complex full Can Bus dashboard.

Anyone know what I might have behind the dashboard? Other than a leak that drips onto the fuse box.

Ivormog, my car is a 2002 Plus8 with Gems efi system.
Hence the extra control box as no link into a common system. The foglight management became a requirement to prevent leaving the rears on unless headlights were on. I can’t remember the date it was introduced.

My understanding is the PCBs started with the Roadster in 2004.
Certainly my 97 +4 had only an ECU

I don't think it's that simple John. The last run of Plus 8s had the dash which continued into the S1 Roadster, and I recall that dash appeared on the LM62s, so more likely it was 2002.

Remember also that the whole range had that dash while it lasted.
I probably mentioned it in the book, but can't be bothered looking right now!!!

Just unscrew it and have a poke around!!!! With a torch.........
