Thanks for that Bob I had always believed them to be Princess one's.
Good luck with the fix.

Well it wouldn't be the first time.

Reference the Austin Princess connection Jon

Apparently they are similar to the princess caliper but not the same. The princess caliper is a 'dual system with a link pipe' whist the Morgan unit has a piston seal with a 'scraper ring'. None of which means a great deal to me but I am assured it is so. Indeed if you look at the princess calipers on e-bay the drillings appear to be in different locations. Besides a simple equivalent just wouldn't be Morgan would it.

Very interesting, because they take Princess pads, from your era right up to current MMC production

Mr Bigg Red said it was the same kit as for Austin Ambassador 1982 - 84 (unsuccessful successor to Austin Princess) but I supose it could do both. The kit was identical to the bits I took out and also includes the gallery seals. These are the square section seals that join the two halfs of the callipers together. Without these you can't separate the two halfs which makes the rebuild more difficult. Talking to the guy from Powertrack, his kit does not have these gallery seals and he did not know where to source them. They will also rebuild for you. Full marks to Bigg Red. 01905 428793 calipers@biggred.co.uk (no financial interest, other bigg reds may be available etc. etc.). swear mad evil mad2 swmbo uk

Thanks for the supplier tip off, never heard of Bigg Red before, but they're in my supplier database now

Thanks for all your suggestions, in the end I went with the BHM recommendation and sent the calipers off to Classiccar Automotive Ltd in Chelford Cheshire 01625860910. They went off Friday mid day by Parcel force 48. CcA received them on the Monday and phoned Friday to tell me they were done and if I would like to pay them some money they would send them off that afternoon. I received them the following Monday morning.

The calipers have been completely refurbed, with only the castings remaining from the original, and pressure tested way beyond normal operating pressures. I was given the exact figure but it escapes me. I do recall the word thousand some where in there. The finish is electroplated 'gold' which I believe is as O.E.M.

The total cost was £226.20 consisting of £170.00 for the refurb, £18.50 p.p. and insurance (via DPD) and £37.70 vat. plus the £22.00 it cost me to send them to CcA

I also replaced the brake hoses with a pair of braided lines from Mulfab. at £62.04 inc p.p and vat. Intially I tried Goodrich but although they list hoses for a Morgan 4/4 they couldn't confirm they would fit my model year without first seeing the originals.

Mulfab on the other hand new exactly what I wanted and I had them the next day.

Other parts used were set of EBC DP243 pads direct from EBC at £28.14 inc yet more p.p and vat.

One Braymann BBA4001 fitting kit from Parts in Motion (ebay)
at £5.99 free delivery (woohoo!)

1.5 litres of Paget DOT4 brake fluid from Euro car parts at £15.46 (collected).
