What makes me uneasy is putting a trad style body on the new chassis. Is that an advance on the Plus 8 concept or is it the start of making cars that are just a pastiche of a true Morgan

Very well put. I bought a Morgan because I was looking for a vintage driving experience without the hassle. It provided exactly that. The 4/4 is the most vintage of the range, and the one I've always found the most charming.

I like the Aeros, and admire the courage it took to build such a striking modern take on the traditional Morgan shape, particularly with the stunning Aeromax. The new style plus 8 seemed like a bit of a step backwards, as you say, to being a pastiche.

I accept that they are great cars, but it's not the Aero model I would choose personally.

It has made me reassess things and I’ve realised that the Plus 4 I’ve got is the car I wanted after years of chasing a non-existent dream car with Porsches. From the first time I drove one I loved its simple, uncomplicated soul. However outdated and anachronistic its underpinnings it’s simply great fun to drive and gives me the best driving experience I’ve ever had. What’s great is that I now have the option to keep it or spend lots more on a Morgan with more modern underpinnings.

Is the new chassis going to be the only chassis soon ? How long are Morgan going to continue with the trad ?

I would say that the answer to that is "Yes".

There are available 3, 4 and 6 cylinder BMW turbocharged engines plus hybrid versions. With increased production the trad chassis will no longer be able to meet safety compliance regulations so I would expect it to be gradually phased out as the other engine options come on-line based on the CX platform.

The 1.6 Ford 4/4 is already discontinued for Europe and the V6 Roadster is at the end of the line. The 2.0 Ford Plus 4 can't be far behind.

Today is my birthday..
and along with all the usual "special" messages from friends and up coming celebrations I will remember this one more than usual because of my infatuation with all things Morgan and the recent events.

I had planned to visit Geneva but instead did a cycle tour in Holland with my son making the journey in my P4SS...a time well spent.

I applaud Morgan's new models and understand that company changes had to be made to ensure the future of the marque.

I love the new +6 (especially if a manual arrives) and hopefully it will appeal to more "new" owners to the marque.

Would I swop ?...no.. I love my galvanised chassis cart springed noisy "classic" car..we had a blast driving to Holland with no roof in the rain !!! but given the funds and space I would have a hardtopped +6 and will play with speccing the car on the Morgan website.

Sad that Morgan will no longer be privately owned but nothing is forever and the survival of the company is very important.

Who knows maybe the "quirkiness" or quality/build issues depending on your point of view will be a thing of the past with the new investment.

The King is dead..long live the King !!!

As a former Roadster S2 owner and an Aero + owner I totally "get" where Peter G is coming from.

I wanted a retro looking but essentially modern car, the Roadster wasn't, it was an old care that demanded a lot of care and attention and the ride and handling were flawed.
The Plus 8, although flawed in some minor areas, is. It can be driven as a lazy, easy to use, modern cabriolet, or in sport mode it can be a total hooligan machine. Either way it needs one service a year, like any modern car. It is warm and dry, and the A/C is a big plus both in winter, hood up and in summer, hood down.

I think the Plus 6 builds on the Plus 8, a bit more space: I expect, the Metric +4 which will surely follow are cars that will appeal to many. I will drive the Plus 6 and expect it to be simply amazing, but I think the gap between its market value and the purchase price of a Plus 6, specified as I'd want it, will be too much.
