If you can identify the clutch thono, please let me know for the Alternative Parts List. No one has positively identified it yet.

Heat spots like that on the pressure plate are often the result of high rpm 'clutch drops'. Created lots of those in my younger musical car days.

The slave cylinder is a Volvo item but not identified the pressure plate and friction plate positively yet.

Hello Thono,
I heard it is special made for the 3w......and would cost even more.
But it looks like the set had to be changed to a new one.

I have no idea what the parts look like but maybe the clutch is smaller as they were going for less weight vs a Miata factory set up. Maybe to make it work we would have to have a Miata pressure plate, clutch and flywheel. There are just so many options if the Miata stuff could work.

One of the considerations must have been that the S&S engine does not need a flywheel mass to aid 'smooth' running as it is integral to the crankshaft (as with most motorcycle engines). So MMC was likely was indeed looking to reduce rotational inertia, as well as only needing a disk/pressure plate with 120-130 lbs/ft of capacity.

I would think a lightweight alloy flywheel to Miata spec might be adapted to suit this application, but in the meantime, perhaps Thorsten can give us the diameter and spline count of the gearbox input shaft to provide us with more info to go 'disk hunting'.

I would conjecture the disk and PP might be from a low end Mazda sedan (i.e. lower torque requirement than Miata).

BREAKING NEWS

An alternative clutch has be found.

I called into CG Motorsport Clutches in Leeds today on the off chance with my clutch in hand and they told me what is was from before I could tell them. RESULT.

They can:

Re-line your existing plate or supply an new clutch assy.

Didn't discuss a price as mine was ok to go back in.

A new friction plate is 7.3mm thick when compressed, mine measured 7.29mm after 19k miles.

Suppose I had better start using it then......

Look them up at:

It’s not from anything, it’s a motorsport clutch.
