Could that be related to the reliability of British technology? scared

Interesting comments from everyone.
Character-wise I think we Brits are generally a contradiction in terms...You know the thing...we can be rowdy but the rest of the time we are either reserved or repressed etc....
It does'nt surprise me how the song 'Mad Dogs and Englishmen....' came about either.

On the point raised about technical creativity, technology, and British product reliability.....I think that as a nation one thing that tends to define the British is that we are (and have just about always been) primarily 'Men in Sheds'....I think deep down we even quite like the idea of things breaking down because it gives us the chance to disappear in to Shed-land and start 'tinkering' or 'ripping stuff apart' (which ever your persuasion is).
I wonder though if our 'oily hand heritage' is on the wain due to our 'throw away world' today combined with a young generation of software/app geeks ?....answers on a postcard to......

I started in my grandfathers shed. he was a shedpro.

It wasn't long before I took things apart - nothing was safe - scooter, bike, lawnmower, clock off the sideboard. Most things went back together and worked.......

I should have been an engineer.

Undoubtedly. My main hobby is yachting and yachts are relatively simple things but in the reliability stakes somewhere near the Morris Oxford. Maintenance is required and routine. But whereas most of the older phrrrrts like myself happily take engines to bits and winches and windlasses etc, a surprisingly high proportion of the younger yotties get everything done by the boatyard. Sure some of this is shortage of time when working but a lot is the lack of involvement in getting hands dirty with the first unreliable banger or motorcycle or even the old guider as we used to call them. Kids now dont play with mneccano but with computers. They simply dont expect to have to repair something because it has broken down.

Yes, to protect the animals we love (already on this little island) from contracting the likes of rabies which we have so far managed to keep at the other side of the Channel...

As for your other comments rofl
