I’ve only just started As a non-British, I don't have the sensitivity to understand your message properly. Is it your way of expressing compassion or is it your contribution to the famous British humor? I don't really understand it and I don't have the access to see it as funny. Heinz, it was my sense of humour and sorry if it offended anybody. Peter, I hope Caroline recovers quickly

Craig, it's all good. I personally didn't feel attacked at all.

I went out to a local jazz club with friends the other night and as I was driving I drunk alcohol-free lager all night. It's an excellent jazz club and prides itself on the beers it serves so the alcohol-free lager was actually really nice to drink. So much so in fact that I found myself questioning the need to drink non-alcohol free beer at all. Now wine is a different matter! Haven't found one that tastes anything other than foul. Best of luck with the abstinence and best wishes to Caroline.

I can only second all the best wishes to Caroline too Peter. I try to stick to red wine / brandy and attempt to limit consumption to the weekends - but not always with great success I think your method of 'cold turkey' is probably the best way to go; good luck James

Concur about the horse rugs - I used to have a beautiful 18hh Shire. It would take hours to get her rugged, but she seemed able to remove it in seconds.......
I gave her to a friend when I left publishing as I could no longer afford to keep her. One of the very few regrets I have from my change of career.

I stopped drinking almost 19 years ago.
I found that I could tolerate less and less alcohol, and the hangovers were getting worse and worse. A pint of beer for example on a Saturday night would see me in bed until 4pm on Sunday. Clearly it wasn’t doing me any good, so I stopped “cold turkey” style.
My overall health improved and for the first few years there were times - especially in the summer - when I did miss being able to have a beer, or at celebrations where the bubbly was flowing but now I don’t miss it at all.
The recent (last 3-5 years) has seen a massive increase in the choice and availability of non alcoholic beers (I refuse point blank to drink chemical laden pop or sugar laden pseudo fruit juices) - which has definitely improved things. There are even some palatable AF wines around too. Round these parts Morrisons seem to have the widest selection of AF beers and wines.
I’m particularly enjoying Adnams Ghost Ship or Speckled Hen AF.
I threw Budweiser zero down the sink, not to my taste!
Technically there are actually few true 100% AF drinks around, but for all intents and purposes I consider less than 0.5% to be AF for me. I can get away with drinking maybe 3 bottles of less than 0.5% beer without any problem..
Good luck to Caroline and OP, hope things work out well.

Budweiser, regardless of whether the "full fat" or Zero versions, should only be poured down the sink (unless it is the real stuff from the Czech Republic! ).

Good luck to both of you Peter. Really hope Mrs Peter gets back to top health v soon. We do dry January each year but that’s about it. For various reasons both myself and Lady HB have had blood tests over last two or three years which they say also covers your liver “health “ with “all fine” results but neither of us are sure if we are fooling ourselves, and actually other tests would be needed. Anyone know if the general eg 50+ health checks/blood tests are an accurate view? We tend not to binge per se but share a bottle of red or white between us over our meal times? HB
