Morgans are too costly to have the sorts of problems you mentioned, and such comments are contrary to the perception of an exclusive hand-built brand. I doubt you are being realistic. Morgans may be hand built but in reality that means a lower quality rather than a higher one and I write that not as a Morgan owner but as someone with a lifetime in manufacturing. If you want to improve quality, you automate and get rid of people. And yes they are exclusive because the volume is low which again has if anything negative effects on quality. So dont expect a hand built exclusive Morgan to be as well made as a machine built decidedly non exclusive Porker for example. What you are buying with a Morgan is not a problem free life but lots of smiles and fun with a few problems on the way.

Add this lot together and we'll be driving Porkers! Guess I'd better not answer that one!! What would I change? The driver's weight! And add a little more seat padding...

Steve, I don't think you should be overly- concerned about my 'gripes' as they might apply across the board. As many posters on this site will confirm, ( Boshly, where are you?) I have a personal niggle about this stuff which probably isn't replicated by others. My car is a 2000 4/4 and when I bought it I went for it -rather than a Roadster- because I knew that on a personal level there would be things I wanted to upgrade, so I reduced my initial purchase budget accordingly
I think the imporant thing to grasp is that - certainly so far as the trads are concerned- the cars are built down to a budget( as they have to be with small volume production) so a certain amount of 'borrowing' of parts from other sources is inevitable)
In terms of hoses, I can only speak of my own 4/4 but the 'set' I had were a mixture of things and the overall effect was pretty cr*ppy
Probably the biggest 'plus' is thst the factory are very obliging in terms of sorting out any faults new car owners have. So, as I said, don't be overly put off by my moans HTH regards, G

Hmm not my experience with a couple of big ticket items on mine. But that was 9 years ago, have things improved? from the latest posting in the trads section, does not look as if it it has.

A propos Brian V's comments about Factory service, I was trying to give a balanced picture here. On a personal level, I'm not their biggest fan and for that reason, I don't tend to deal with them direct. On the other hand, I DO know that many others have received excellent feedback and, as we've read many times in posts, there are staff at the Factory who do 'go that extra mile' to help and I felt it was important that Steven should be aware of this

I missed the obvious one - shallower sump for the Roadster. So easy to sort but so unlikely to get sorted. This is also an issue with the later editions of the Aero, such as the AeroMax and the Aero SS (and I guess the Series IV?). The sump is much lower than the earlier iterations and as we are surrounded by speed bumps in Berkshire, it is a real pain slowing down to a max of 10 mph to go over them! Some members are already on their second or third sump!! I guess the only real answer is to dry-sump them, but as MMC are now into the run-out models of the BMW V8's, I doubt very much that the Works will come out with such a modification. On general quality, my Series I Aero went back to the works in 2002 with a list of nearly 60 items to be rectified, many of them quite serious, and it did take several visits before I was completely happy with the car. I must say that MMC were very helpful and did work to sort out the issues and fitted a completely new hood and many other items in order to ensure the car was the required standard. My latest Aero SuperSports has been pretty trouble-free, the only major fault has been a problem with the seals on the Targa-top. This was a problem that all early SS's had, and was been sorted out when it went back for its first-service, when a newly designed set of seals was fitted under warranty. The car is now 10-months old and I have done circa 6,000 miles and have had no electrical problems whatsoever, the bugbear of the Series IV/AeroMax, the paint is extremely well-applied (according to my Detailer) and the leather trim is near perfect. I am very happy with the car and hope that I am not tempting the Gods with my comments. As regards the M3W, I am sure that early cars will have some issues and as mine will be one of them, I quite expect to have to act as a development 'mule' (no comments please Boshers!). I am sure that by the time it gets to yours Steven, most of these teething problems will have been sorted and I am sure you can buy with confidence. Any minor issues that you have will be sorted I am sure by Denis, one of the really good Morgan Dealer's so now I think it is back to colour color choices...

The Ford V6 can be dry sumped - the "sump" is available from the USA. But it's not something to attempt from a blank sheet of paper. Noble have done it so there is someone out there with the knowledge in the UK. But the fixing up of pipes, reservoir tank and scavenge pump is a serious challenge. I'm just surprised that one of the race specialists don't develop & advertise a kit. It would defintiely also need bellhousing protection, because a dry sump would present the flat front face of the bellhousing to obstacles, and this needs a skid.

I wished that this forum existed back in 1997 when I bought mine and knew the phrase "they all do that Sir was just an excuse" My dealer was rubbish as well, doesnt exist any more, but they still have something to do with carbs. Mine had to go back to the factory for paintwork and bonnet remodelling within a month, but otherwise what would I change:
NOTHING
It leaks, rattles, bounces, flexes, has developed all the same bodywork problems that my other wooden framed car has (A lot quicker as that one is 76 years old) but still fantastic.

TRAD front suspension: something that brings more driving-pleasure (at speed) sidescreens: they bow outwards above 100miles/hour (my habitat) esp/traction control: I see at least 5 trads at my dealer, having pushed the accelerator too early out of a bend/roundabout "they can't drive anymore" says the old man, he's right!! side-mirrors: they bow inwards above (see ^^^^) seats: the are not supportive enough for the lower back cubby box in between the seats: I bought an aftermarket one: fantastic, adds a lot of comfort plastic radiator: ???????????? no compredo segnor, plastic???
as said before, somethimes the screws are lousy, or the cables run badly so the plastic wears off,...
