So will the punter buy a new plus 4 then if they are worried about the price tag and potential for the tax man to increase the co2 charges on cars. Will they just decide to get a tesla a for the same money ?

In 15 or 20 years I will trade my worthless Morgan in for an electric pavement scooter. I reckon I will have had my moneys worth out of it by then and it will owe me nothing. Until then I will enjoy it whilst I can Yep. It's an extraordinary privilege to be able to enjoy driving our cars and I'm going to hang on to mine as long as I can afford it, but I have no concerns about switching to an EV when the time comes. Everyone seems aghast at the idea that iCE cars won't be very popular or worth much in 15 years, but we can all remember the days when classics weren't seen as valuable and nobody wanted them. If I'd had a quid for every time I have heard stories like "I was offered a 1959 Birdcage Maserati for 20 guineas and a packet of Woodbines, but I turned it down" then I could easily afford a Plus 6. The cycle of public perception will continue to change just as it always has done. ICE cars will fall out of favour, as newer clean technologies take over. I see no cause for gloom and despondency at all, especially for performance enthusiasts. Motoring has always been enormously popular at all levels of society, and because there are so many branches of it there is something to appeal to everybody. Why on earth would this change simply because people choose to have a different sort of motor under the bonnet?

Will they just decide to get a tesla a for the same money ? Quite possibly. But that's always been the case, MMC has always had to compete in a market where there is lots of competition from manufacturers offering more advanced solutions. But there's nothing to stop MMC offering an EV or hybrid drivetrain and if the MMC engineers aren't already having discussions with BMW about how they might be able to package a BMW solution into the CX platform then I'd be amazed.

Question is then how many on here are buying an electric car as their next car ? Big step but maybe we have little choice ?

No problems in changing to EV either. I'd change now but there is nothing really viable that is affordable for the long distance driving that I do. In 5 years time maybe there will be but at the moment EVs are a very small percentage of new cars sold and 10 or 15 years is a long time and I think there will still be ICE around in 15 or 20 years time even if with use restrictions. After 15 or 20 years my driving days may well be over if I'm lucky enough to be still her. Then it will be the Electric pavement scooter for me. In fact pavement scooters will be very exciting because the demise of the city centre shops will mean that we will have many thousands of pavement scooters with racetracks around city centre pavements

Don’t think any UK Government in our lifetimes would dare to finish up the ICE in its entirety. Too many votes would be at stake 😀 And lead to a repeat of the 'Poll Tax' style riots
