In addition going plateless could save us a fortune on speeding fines too!

Currently on my red plus 8 I have silver digits stuck on the wing. Drove into a road today facing a police car and they never batted an eye

As for void insurance, that’s utter rubbish. Even no MOT doesn’t affect your ins as long as the accident wasn’t caused by a fault that would have been picked up

Thanks for those facts, most interesting.

Has anyone done this and experienced any issues with the Police/MoT?

Lot's of comments re sticky wing plates, but you could also ditch the nasty plastic box, make up a couple of brackets & mount to front plate in the traditional way, just below the grille

It should be and it certainly used to be rubbish back in the days when your insurance went through an underwriter, there were no comparison sites etc etc. Now the model is different. The checking of what you have said on your proposal comes after a claim, and increasingly insurers look for reasons not to pay ( to quote SWMBO who is a Fellow of the Insurance Institute). One such would be the vehicle not being roadworthy and that includes issues like illegal plates, exhaust etc. Not just things relevant to the accident.

Depends on the company. Some are better than others so all I am saying is that you cannot be as certain as that.

As for the number plate, the relevant rules are here . I'm not a lawyer and in any case I suspect the police have better things to do that to check plates unless you "show the wrong attitude when stopped ). That said the regs refer to both a plate and a number and the plate is specified as flat. So unless your car has been made before the specified date, you are obliged to have a flat number plate

I want to put a square stick on plate (black on white background on my new LM62. Has anyone done this and what were the dimensions to be legal?

I had a grey import Nissan GTR and it had the odd Japanese market numberplate slots. I had a square plate made up for the front/back and the maker went to some trouble to ask about the legality as it was slightly smaller than a standard UK plate. The character sizes were standard but they trimmed the backing plastic slightly to fit it in.

I had a few visits by her majesty's but not for bad reasons. They "offered" to make certain it was a legal import as a lot of those were pinched and exported from Japan at that time. A couple were into the Japanese car market and wanted to look as they had not seen a GTR just Evo's and Scooby's. I did ask them about the plate and they said that it was good enough.

I got my front square plate from Aero Racing but it was a real faff trying the get it to stick owing to the compound curvature of the front wing but they do look good I have to say.

I rather like the clean front lines of this Aero that Crazy Horse are selling, probably a big help with front facing cameras too!
