Just had the rather sad news from a Morgan acquaintance in Oz that Bill Button passed away in his sleep last night.
To quote said Australian source:
"Bill was a Morgan icon and what he achieved was amazing. He had many friends out here and we're really cut up about this.
His lasting example to us is to live life to the full while we can. It's hard to know just what to say but I'll really miss him and the email chats we had.
John"
Unfortunately, I missed out on meeting him a few years ago when he and a friend brought one of his cars over to tour parts of the UK and Europe.

Very sad news indeed.
His exploits and his "Bitsa" cars were something of an inspiration to me in the work I've done on my car but my work pales into insignificance compared to what he did.
And still blogging up to the end.
I'm sure all TMers will miss him.

Really sad to hear this, but Bill had a flippin' great innings and lived life to the full.
It was my pleasure to meet him back in 2006 when he and his wife visited the UK. A splendid chap indeed.

Terribly sad to read of the passing of a true Morgan Man. Although we never met in person Bill and I swapped emails for 20 years and I’m delighted to say a few phone calls where his sense of humour was amazing he will be long missed. Rest in peace Bill, you showed many of us the way it should be done.

Really sorry to read this Graham, he really was Mr Morgan and a lovely kind man with a great sense of humour I shall miss his emails and posts on TM.
T will miss him badly, they had their spring trip away planned already.

I am deeply saddened by this news. I had a nice mail exchange with William three years ago and two months ago also. William gave me very valuable tips for the route selection for a planned trip through the Northwest of the USA and Canada.
He knew the whole area like his backyard including hotels etc.
The wonderful thing was that his travel tips were not just "technical" but full of stories and personal experiences of each of the places and all the decades and thus almost a piece of exciting American history that Bill brought to life. For example, I learned that Port Townsend is not just a city worth seeing, but that Bill's brother went to the Naval Military Academy there as a young man, or that this city was to become the capital of Washington and not the city of Olympia...if the railroad had been involved, etc. I will always see his mails as a valuable memory of someone I only knew through the net...but it still makes me sad.
Death is a paradox and it makes you speechless. When someone has to suffer for a long time and is in pain, sometimes one speaks of death as redemption. When someone literally goes on great tours with the Morgan until the last day of his long and fulfilled life, like Bill, then it is even more unimaginable that death will still happen one day.
But anyway it is always sad and full of loss when someone you like very much has to go.

Oh my..! That is sad news indeed, I met Bill in cyberspace thanks to eMog, and had only just re-connected via TM, boy what a true Morgan enthusiast he was and an example for any young person to follow, he will be very sadly missed. There was only one Bill Button, and I am so glad to have known of him and feeling very fortunate that I did.

His exploits were legendary. His achievements with Morgans were both aspirational and inspirational.
He demonstrated that age does not necessarily dim the spirit, nor the ability to wield a spanner.
I never met Bill, but we exchanged ideas and theories.
I will miss his posts on TM.

Deeply saddened by this news -- He was a unique individual with an immense knowledge of Morgans in all their guises - I'm priviledeged to say that i met him and remember his enthusiasm with affection
