It's on the V5C as a 4/4 with the Fiat 2 litre engine and correct engine number. The previous owner, in renovating it, replaced the badge above the radiator to a +4 one, so I get asked about my +4 but I never to accept it as a +4 or tell them it's really a 4/4.

I was curious to know what the differences were between the 4/4 and +4 of that era.

I've just learned something.

The 4/4 did indeed use a Fiat engine as standard (albeit 1584cc) in the early 80's as the replacement for the 1600 crossflow until Ford offered MMC the CVH, first as an option then as standard from about 1984.

I thought it was only the Plus 4 that used the Fiat engines.

At that time I don't think the Plus 4 was in production as my 4/4 book talks about Morgan's continued relationship with Fiat on the newly re-introduced wider bodied Plus 4 in 1985.

So from what I can see the Plus 4, in addition to the 2 litre engine, would have been wider bodied and have wider wheels and tyres.

In effect you've got the Plus 4 engine in a narrow body 4/4.

There are many people on here who have those era cars who will either confirm or dispute my conclusions and elaborate.

That's one of the great things about Morgans and TM, there are always new things to learn and indeed mistakes to make.

It is the engine on the one hand and the wider wings on the other hand.

The 4/4 has been equipped with the 1.6l carburator engine and the narrow form.
The Plus for has been equipped with the 2.0 fuel injection engine and the wide form.

In the Paper by Charles Lofstedt in Miscellany he wrote that only the first 15 +4 were equipped with the 2.0 carburator engine.

I would stick with whatever floats your boat. It is a Mog & they are all a little different.

I believe the Fiat engined plus 4 were classed as 4//4 on the registration documents for regulatory reasons. It was built on the 4/4 chassis but with the larger engine and marketed as a +4.

mine`s a 2018 2ltr Gdi, 180hp, plus 4 but with a 4/4 narrow body. its exactly the same as other plus 4`s on the inside but just has the traditional skiiny look. love it.
