I think the biggest thing putting me off a CX platform Mog (other than the price) is the fact I won’t be able to tinker

I love tinkering on the Mog and the suspension greasing and the messing about

Won’t be the same on new modern fangled machine with an engine that looks like a nest of vipers

Okay perhaps Morgan can introduce a new option. Surrogate suspension grease points. They could fit them for Trad owners to allow them to climb under and get messy?

I think I could cope without the black fingernails, I'd probably like it to drive too, but its out of my price range for a 3rd car. I would never get planning permission.

Around £65K with extras doesn't sound too bad if you say it quickly but you can get a lot of high spec prestige cars for that kind of money. At the moment its an unknown quantity for depreciation. Cars in that bracket tend to depreciate more in cash terms too so Ill think about it in a couple of years ....maybe !

Stewart, you could order your CX with the optional wires and spend your lazy weekends on your knees with a toothbrush 😂

To be honest, I had the same thought, but I couldn't think of such a good example as you.

When I ordered the Plus 4 in late 2011 I was actually intending to buy a Roadster but the 3.0 litre version had just been discontinued and I felt that the proposed, but not yet available, replacement was too powerful for the trads chassis and had more power than I wanted. I tried very hard to get them to build me a car with the Plus 4 SS engine but Morgan would not build it with an easyup hood or in LH drive.

The rest is history and, like Peter, the "vintage charm" soon wore off. I have spent quite a bit of cash in improving the suspension and mild engine tuning. I still think that around 200 hp and good torque is the "sweet spot" for a Morgan sports car.

Certainly if the CX PlusFour had been available in 2012 I too would have bought one. Now, however, I would be discouraged by the price. I would not get sufficient return on the sale or part-ex of the Plus 4 to make it a viable option and I can't really see the benefit to me of changing to a car that is not really how I would like it to be: too powerful and too much torque for such a light car without traction control, and I am left somewhat nonplussed by the lack of a radio. I also feel that they could have done a little more work on the design to get rid of the "pram hood" effect. There have been a wealth of soft top cars that seem to be able to conceal the hood when down.

I am sure Morgan will have a great success with the car but I don't think it is for me.

If they did bring out a 185 hp version that could be more interesting to me as the torque from a turbocharged engine would put it more into my perceived "sweet spot". The only problem with that is that the years are passing for me and I feel less inclined every day to put money into expensive cars.

I can well imagine that a ca. 190 hp version will follow. When I can not say, but it would be an option to reach a wider clientele. It would be a smart strategy to lower the price (credible for the public) in case there are not enough buyers for the current 250 hp version (at the current price point) even if the production costs would be the same. I believe it could happen, may be in two years from now.

Why? I was never attracted to Morgan’s for the ability to fettle or the need to grease or a clunky ride etc. I was attracted by the looks and the built by hand thing (and the history).
With my tired old joints, and in recovery still from left ankle op, an auto appeals. A modern suspension appeals. A bit more power appeals. A larger, easier to ingress and egress (if that’s the word or is that a baby eagle) appeals. All the above also means Lady HB (in recovery from hip replacement) would enjoy the drive more as a passenger and would even consider driving it, which she won’t whilst it’s a manual. Indeed she has even suggested a willingness to consider U.K. hols further afield eg NE Scotland, if it is a more pleasant (for her) place to sit for hours on end.
Me, I love my trad, but for the shared experience I think a change is highly likely (subject to part ex value and access to other funds if poss).
It will be cheaper to change the car than Her Ladyship, according to my man maths....😇 (only joking dear if you ever read this....if you don’t hear from me again you will know why...#willbeburiedunderpatio).
I can’t wait for a test drive!!!

I’m in the garage this morning tinkering on the Mog to see how much I enjoy getting grubby scuffed knees

I have always had a classic of some description, when I sold the last one an '84 Alfa Spider I needed something to replace it but I wanted something reliable but still with the classic feel and handling. My NB + 4 ticked all the boxes would I change it for a CX, absolutely NO. That's not to say I don't think the new car is great because it is but just not for me.
