My colleagues Mum and Dad were on the one that's been quarantined in the US. They finally arrived back in the UK late last night...

Iām still too young for cruise ships. I would drop the average age rate too much.
Now that "is" a comment that has "some" merit! In my 16 Cruises the killer in terms of age etc was the only cruise that sailed from Southampton! We did the fjords. The boat was chocker-block with can't fly, won't fly, need a mobility cart and/or zimmer frame. I am not knocking the right or enthusiasm of people with special needs/requirements having the ambition to travel. However, most were in bed by 10 pm. Never again from Southampton. As for anyone thinking of trying a cruise for the first time some tips: 1. No more than 7 days 2. Minimum sea days 3. Never an "inside cabin" and preferably a balcony always select mid-ship region and upper decks. 4. Late dinner sitting 5. Table for 8 preferably "international" dinner guests 6. With Carnival Lines Veterans/ex-Forces get bonus gratis on board spend worth having 7. Book excursions through cruise line. Its a bit more expensive but if anything happens the ship will not leave without you. Go freelance with a dock side local company and if you are late returning ship will leave!!!! We made it by an absolute whisker in KLGangplank was already moving!!!. Never again. Anybody want some recommendations PM me Trust me experience can make a difference- as we have learned.

Is your post designed to be like the Cruiseline pricing model? Tips are not included.

I go along with comments made by Eurosystem0. Purely on observations in many years on ships all over the world, obesity and immobility of some passengers seems to be a common problem. I have witnessed 20 - 30+ stone people trying to get down or upstairs during a requisite maritime law muster test upon leaving port where the lifts cannot be used. In a real emergency these people will perish especially with these monstrosity huge cruise ships that can now accommodate 6000 passengers. I am amazed that these Shipping Lines are not more restrictive?

We avoid crowds anywhere, just because we love remote walking, so a huge floating hotel has zero appeal.
We have friends who love cruising. Currently they are somewhere in South America, but they love crowds, even at home and do theatre and cinema constantly. They have both been ill on cruises and he got pneumonia a couple of years ago, and spent more than a week in the sick bay, and a huge medical bill which his insurance paid.
This virus could be the start of a shift in habits for some.

In the worst case the virus could be the end of habits for some š

We went to the Norwegian Fjords with Fred Olsen Lines. We went for the views etc and thoroughly enjoyed it. But being with all those people wasn't my thing at all, it was a necessary evil.
We have no plans to go back but I can see for some this is an enjoyable event.

Some love em and some hate them. I am in the middle and like one a year.
Booked a Baltic cruise for July - prefer a week, but two needed for the Baltics from the UK.
Never book all inclusive hotels but that's part of the package on board.
Hate the wasteful gluttony of some passengers ie piling up a plate full of buns then leaving half of them and also hate the 24/7 pollution from the dirty engines.
A few ports require ships to plug into the mains and turn off engines while in port - costs millions to set up, but has to be the way forward.
