Talk Morgan Forums Community Vehicle Talk (non-Morgan) To cruise or not ?

We have enjoyed cruises for years. Now we can afford it, we only book on to ships that take less than 800 passengers. We avoid P&O, Princess and the like who cater for lowest common denominator people. Fred Olsen are worth avoiding too - poor service, poor food and very tired ships.

Our favourites are Regent, Azamara and Silversea (in that order). We choose to cruise when the destination justifies. Our most recent was the Chilean Fjords & Falklands on Azamara Pursuit. Excellent speakers, stunning scenery and some great destinations. We always choose the trips organised by the cruise line - as others have said, they cost a bit more, but when things go wrong it is their problem. We also always choose the trips with the most walking.

If you have never tried a cruise and fancy giving it a go, choose a short one that includes brilliant scenery (Norwegian Fjords, Alaska or similar) - that way, if you don’t enjoy the cruise or the ship, at least you will have had a worthwhile holiday.

Speakers are all well and good, but do they have a comedian and tits and teeth show?

Azamara had both - and good ones - as do Regent. Silversea is a bit more highbrow.

Some trips can really only be done by cruise. Galapagos on a 20-passenger ship last year was a great example of cruising par excellence and highly recommended as an antidote to crowds while still enjoying great cuisine and amazing shore trips

Why not have an adventure instead of a cruise.

When married I was 'encouraged' to go on a large cruise ship, intersting itinary but not for me.

Small ship cruising often gives fine dining, and fellow travellers who are happy to do without the razzmatazz of the more traditional cruise ships.

luckily we all like different things otherwise life would be very boring

I still miss my morgan but now have good memories of the two I was lucky enough to own

I'll bet that's a really nice trip without the ordeal by food and no petri dishes .

It’s been on my bucket list for a while. Mrs F refuses point blank because:
1) It has shared bathrooms
2) Coal is dirty

Curiously, when we are at the stables with our horses we are surrounded by poo and other effluent and she is prepared to pee in a bucket if the need arises. This is not a problem to her. Feminine logic is beyond me at times.
