I have a 1996 4/4 narrow body with some tatty 5.5 x 15 wire wheels. Does anyone know if you can replace them with 6 x 15's wires. cheers paul.

It's worth measuring up to check, especially the clearance between kingpin and tyre, but if you stick with a similar tyre size you may be ok. IIRC the 5.5" rims are fitted with 185 section tyres as standard, which is also a good fit on a 6" rim. The other suitable size for 6" rims is a 195, ie only 5mm wider each side so you may get away with fitting those too. Personally I'd stick with the 185s, fitting overly wide tyres to a 4/4s means you lose a lot of agility.

They rubbed badly on fully lock and the Morgan handled badly.
I am now back to the skinny wheel and tyre it handles so well.
I have 5 spare wheels and tyres in my garage!

5" rims and 165 tyres are perfect for 4/4s IMO.

I've gone for 5.5" rims, 205 back and 195 front.

I'll let you know how I get on (if I ever get my rear axle back together )

I too will go back to narrow 165x80r15 this spring.
I had 185x70 for the last 5 years.

Narrow tires reinforce the classic look of the Morgan 4/4. And with the 165 Vredesteins the car drives very well.

I was going to fit wider tyres on my 4/4 when I changed to the 2 litre engine with 160 bhp.

Listening to comments on here I decided to stay with the 165's and fitted Vredestein T-Trac2 which are perfectly adequate, handle very precisely and look great with the narrow body.

I guess it’s down to why you want wider wheels and tyres....looks or handling. I fitted wider Avon’s on my 4/4 and it lost the agility in my view. Ok, it went round corners a bit more securely but you lost that lovely ability to lose the rear end intentionally and quite safely. That was one of the lovely things about the 4/4.
