So today's lock down task:
I decided to remove the tool tray to inspect underneath. First thing I discovered was the the two screw at the front just went round and round, appears they have snapped off


So I will have to replace those.

What I discovered was that the nearside handbrake cable went between the shock and the mounting pole, this means a tight turn off the back of the hub and then signs of chaffing on the extra rubber around the cable (car has done less then 10,000 miles)


So I decided to reroute the cable around the other side of the mounting pole, which to my inexpert eye looks much better.


What next?
I know clean up the battery terminals.

When you next remove the off side rear wheel, have a close look at the handbrake cable as it curves down towards the brake drum. Splitting of the outer sheath at this point is a common issue and eventually results in rusted, seized or even broken inner cable. I wrapped mine in denso tape in this area.

About the screws: Same on my car!

Probably caused by being screwed directly into the ash frame with a power screwdriver and no pilot hole. Screws made from cheese doesn't help either. Replace with stainless but you won't be able to use same hole location.

That would be fine but at my car this 2 screws have been cut and there was no ash frame at this place just "air".
I didn't find a hole in this area of the In the ash frame either
So I think someone at MMC made some screwdummies!

I carry a box of cooking matches in my car (safety ones of course). If I ever get a loose wood screw while out and about, a couple of neatly trimmed matches poked in the whole make a suitable fix and give the screw plenty to bite on. If I'm at home, I use a touch of woodglue to help.

I used to use matches too.

But since I own the MORGAN and because I am sometimes a perfectionist, I have bought various round rods made of beech wood that I use as wooden dowels.

That is up market. I follow the trick taught me by my Grandfather of using a match(es) & if available wood glue.

Broken off screws can be extracted using a hand pin chuck, but it's time consuming. Make a hole then tap a modellers three faced file into the end and draw out by unscrewing with pliers...…………...

Where possible I try to fill holes with a sawdust/wood glue mix, which can then be re-drilled……..

I also use matches...and ash always needs a pilot hole...…….try drilling it and it's exceptionally hard.
