You could try cutting a couple of slots along the thread of an old plug (with a hacksaw) and running it in and out a few times to clean the thread in the head.

Nick As per another thread on rear brakes. Make sure you have the tool for pressing the new circlip onto the new brake slave cylinder, or you will be working on it for hours. They are obtainable from the MG owners club as per Dave's post on the other thread.

Yes - I have the cylinder and ordered the MGOC fitting tool last night. I figured exactly that - a dedicated tool is worth far more than i costs!

Hi Nickplus4. Given everything you have so far tried I would buy the thread restorer suggested by TBM. I've never seen one but it looks a brilliant tool and although quite expensive if it works it will be very cost effective. You can always sell it on, probably within the club, or offer to hire it out ???
