Have been looking for next car for some time, what one would you have ? 2018 3.7 roadster nice spec about 50k or 2019 plus 4 @ circa 40k not top spec,

Can you test both on the road or are they perhaps sold before driving is allowed again? I would like to experience both during a drive.

Given a choice of such diverse cars, in your shoes I would not make a decision without driving them both.

Roadster for me, but you’ve got to drive both. The right car will find you.

Every Morgan is different to drive , I found out this early on in my learning curve ....well worth driving quite a few , its a very interesting experience !

A tipping point may be whether or not the 2018 Roadster has a 5 link rear (coilspring dampers). It came in around April 2018.

Drive both.
I have a 3l Roadster & prefer it to the 3.7l because :-
1. There is more room for your feet which becomes more noticeable on long drives. The 3.7 has a wider gearbox tunnel.
2. The speedo is in front of you. The 3.7 uses Mustang instruments & the speedo is off to the left. The 3.7 has so much power it is easy to slip over the limit.

But I do like the extra power & am ambivalent on the 5 link suspension. It lets you lay down the power but I am not sure it is better if you have anti tramp bars & a panhard rod. For me it is too much like a modern car. But each to his own.

I had a 1997 T16 engine plus 4. a very nice car but it misses the acceleration & speed of the Roadster. I prefer the Roadster as it is a great tourer. I haven't driven the 2019 +4.

It entirely depends upon the sort of motoring you do and you driving style.

If you want an effortless cruiser that will eat up the miles and remain unstressed and a more comfortable ride , then go for the Roadster. You will cruise in top (or 5th on a 6 speed box) without the need to swap cogs to get the best out of it.

If you love changing down gears as you rush into corners, and a more "sporty' feel then the +4 is likely to fit the bill better.

However I am very much with Richard here, the 5 link rear suspension on the later cars does tame that rear end, and give an even better ride. The 3.7 engined cars without it can be quite a handful to drive on (or close) to the limit I am informed.

As others have said , the only way you will know is to drive both , epsecially if you do it back to back over the same stretch of road (assuming they are at the same dealer of course , a tad tricky otherwise I accept)

Drive both the Plus4 and Roadster. Morgans can be so different in colour, trim and specification and price would be a big factor to me. A nearly new Plus 4 at £40K is a good buy but If I had £50K for a Roadster then for £13K more you could have a new Plus Four.
