Graham ...that would be great .... we quite often see the Aurora but we're on our way to a cycle trough so they've been a bit thin of late ..... we live right out in the country so the night sky here is astounding ....am going to go out and shake my fist at Musk's satellites later so will keep an eye out ...only downside with this house is that it was built 150 years ago with its back to the north wind for comfort and we don't have any convenient windows face that way so we often only know there's an aurora if we wander out for some reason and it's there ....have seen some stunners over the years tho .
Thanks for the Heads-Up

Sadly after a lovely clear blue-sky day (or perhaps because of) there was a light high mistiness last night that put a stop to any sky-gazing .... another time will have to do.

We saw them last night & will be out again tonight. I downloaded "satellite tracker" app. There are more of them than planes at the moment.

Seems the aurora was mainly Canada / nothern USA. Lyrids meteor shower tonight: Spaceweather. SURPRISE GEOMAGNETIC STORM: The first geomagnetic storm of 2020 (category G1) took forecasters by surprise on April 20th when a CME hit Earth's magnetic field, sparking bright auroras over Canada and some northern-tier US states. LYRID METEOR SHOWER--TONIGHT: The Lyrid meteor shower peaks tonight when Earth passes through a stream of debris from Comet Thatcher (C/1861 G1). Northern sky watchers could see as many as 15 meteors per hour during the dark hours before sunrise on Wednesday, April 22nd.

Am I the only one who thinks it's despicable that an impossibly egotistical billionaire can't be curbed from robbing all 9 billion others of us of the beauty of the heavens in order to increase the obscene pile of dosh he squats on ? .... no doubt the internet generation think it's great but then they never drag their faces out of their phones long enough to gaze at a starry sky Or is that just me being curmudgeonly again? K I agree. We have filled up the oceans with plastic, filled up the air with fine carbon particles, NOx, and God only know what else, and now we are creating an outer sphere of rubbish in space. We already have obsolete telecommunications satellites circling the earth, spy satellites, TV satellites, and and incredible amount of large and small bits of rubbish, and now this! Who the heck permitted this or is there no control what so ever. Perhaps it is a bit like the old days of pirate radio stations.

The "genius" didn't think that making them out of reflective material would cause any issues. The latter ones are supposedly going to be of supposedly matte dark finish. I wonder how the USA will react when the Chinese Russians Indians etc take it upon themselves to do likewise? There is enough junk up there as it is these will eventually add to that tally. It's almost a parody of a bond villain dastardly plot
