I think using MMC for paintwork would be a very bad move given warranty issues I've had on two new cars. This apart from the likely extra cost!
That has concerned me, but I did wonder if restoration might prove a more detailed process, as in less likely to have bare metal panels lying around for a while causing issues etc.
Has anyone actually used the factory for restoration? The finish on new cars is amazing, but some do seem to suffer with warranty woes.
I used someone who worked at the factory to rebuild and respray mine, and nearly twenty years later it's still looking good.
Good to hear they did a cracking job.

You are quite right to be concerned about body shops. I have been rebuilding my MOG for coming up to a year and have spent a small fortune so far. But the real expense will come in the painting of the car. I have looked into this and the company I will be using is called Indygo Refinishing Ltd on 01985 841 613. Tim Ayres uses this company. When I spoke to the owner he gets the car and takes the MOG apart. He will put a photograph album together for you. I have also seen a couple of cars that he has done. First class jobs.
That is good to know, will add it to the growing list of recommendations!

Nick,
I can echo DavidR’s recommendation for Southern Classics. These guys are magic with all things ali and do the best paintwork I have come across. They have looked after my Aston (blue DB MkIII picture in their gallery page) and Jags for years as well as being the go to guys for bigger/better known shops for jobs that are too complicated or just need quality they can’t match. I haven’t needed them to do anything yet on the GTN but have seen plenty of rarer stuff (Astons/Jags/Mercs/Bristols/Jowetts, etc) get their treatment over the years.
Steve Berry is the man to talk to there.

Thanks Colin, will take a look.
