Some further progress, so time for an update.
As the old engine was the later serpentine unit, the car had a later alternator fitted, with a poly V belt pulley. My new engine is earlier in order to be more "period" and uses the V belt pulley as per original. So I've sourced a new original type alternator and luckily managed to reuse the fancy John Eales mount. Belt its 1125mm long by the way in case you need to replace one!
I've also just refitted the off side front wing which was pretty much an all day job as I had to fit new wing brackets and get them bent to final shape. The car previously used a "post" to mount the wings to the crosshead.
Anyway, really happy and everything lines up perfectly now. Drilling the hole for the mounting bolt was scary! The domed nuts where the sidelights would be is just temporary but she's really taking shape now.
