Does anyone know the 'appropriate ' Haynes manual for a black top 1.8 Zetec engine fitted in my 1994 4/4?. engine plate has the model number as MVH418.
TIA.

I thought when I had my old 94 4/4 the engines were used in fiestas. No idea on the Haynes manual though.

The MVH 418 engine was the Ford Power Products version of the Zetec 1.8 engine. The original name of the series was Zeta, but renamed to Zetec and initially used around 1991 in the Mondeo, Fiesta and Escort.
I thought that the engines had a silver top until some time around 2001 or 2002 when the black top version was used. Is yours a replacement engine, or a silver top with a black rocker cover?
If it is a black top, for my black top I used the Ford Focus manual 3759 for information (the Mondeo Mk 3 manual may also be relevant)
I haven't looked at Haynes manuals for a silver top, but I guess it will be the Mk 1 / Mk 2 Mondeo, or Fiesta, or Escort, covering the period of 93, 94
The manuals are useful but the Power Products engine can have differences, my Mondeo manual covering the Duratec shows individual coil packs on each spark plug whereas my 2007 Plus 4 has a single coil pack in the same way as a zetec.

I have the Mondeo mk3 manual for cars from 2003 2007 903 to 56 reg cars) . The 1.8 l 4 cylinder engine is type CDBB, CGBA/B or CHBA/B. The 2 l four cylinder is type CJBA/B Hopes that helps.

Silvertop fitted from '93 (for '94 model year). Haynes Mondeo manual for that period gives a different engine designation - RKL if I remember correctly. Blacktop from early 2000s.

Not in need of a manual to check anything (at the moment), I'm just after something relevant to read during the lockdown(!)

My 1999 car originally had the Silvertop Zetec and it would have been the Silvertop fitted to your car. There were some mods done over the years but fundamentally the same in most details that matter. My original engine model was MVH 418 same as yours. These are the 2 manuals I found most useful and they gave me all the information I needed to do some fairly major work including cylinder head and camshaft swaps. Of the two, the Mondeo is probably the best to get first as the Escort also has some CVH engine sections which you don't need. ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2020/05/11/IMG_1685.jpg)
