We stopped flying for holidays a while back. The hassle at airports and cattle truck planes was a downer on the holiday. Flying would only be done as a last resort. Similar to cruises. The enclosed environment is ripe for infection spread as Novo virus outbreaks demonstrated. Hand sanitation was introduced a while back but the aircon is an issue. The accommodation, food, entertainment and superb staff, coupled to places visited are great. We are unlikely to cruise though, until a vaccine is available. If one can be developed!

The only way to travel with reasonable safety will be in your car if going into Europe, using the shuttle or a ferry, sitting outside. In a Morgan on the shuttle I'd wear a PPE mask for the duration of the crossing. Like John, we will not fly gain until there is a vaccine. Interestingly, BA renewed my Bronze card, despite not having flown sufficiently to meet the renewal criteria.

There are frightening reports, on the one hand how the virus is spreading in Russia, and on the other hand what it does to small children, symptoms similar to the Kawasaki disease.
There is something else. Michel Houellebecq has written a short essay, "The Future after Corona". It should be in English if you google it. For me the best literary work on Corona. It sums up my feelings.

............... Chinese export...................... Richard. I, for one, do wish you would stop using these terms: Chinese export, Chinese takeaway, etc. It is not correct and may be seen as offensive and lead to racism. I am no accusing you of racism and I am quite prepared to believe that you are using these terms somewhat tongue in cheek. It is the continued and repetitive use of these terms that is starting to worry me and I find it fastidious. There is no arguing with the fact that the virus seems to have originated in China, however despite all the theories, nobody really knows who was the first person and how the virus jumped from an animal to that person. There is no way of knowing wther or not that person had anything to do with bats, wet markets or research. It may well be that it was a kind person like our next door neighbour who, the other night, caught a bat that had accidentally flown into her house, and put it outside in the garden. WHO specifically recommends the use of a name that is not related directly to the country of origin of any epidemic specifically to avoid racist connotations. We have seen both acts of racism against Chinese and acts of kindness from Chinese. The Chinese residents of a tower block in Milan, none of whom were CV19 positive, distributed medical masks free of charge to all the residents. Not to mention the medical and scientific assistance that arrived from China to help Italy. If the next, because there will be a next, outbreak of an epidemic seem to start in the UK should we call it the "Brit 'n chips" or some such? I don' t recall BSE (though not exclusive to the UK) being called the "British Export", and as a matter of fact "Spanish Flu" did not started in Spain. Tme to give it a rest Rich. The virus is COVID-19, and in its serious infection form is SARS-CoV-2. Thank you for your understanding.

No worries Peter just as you say trying to lighten up a very serious topic with a little TIC humour that will always be open to interpretation so I'll put it to bed for now. Factually the source is China was what it's all about and the rest is scientific semantics which I have followed closely. Out of interest whilst working in Western Germany as it was called then in 1976 "striking" was called the Englischer Krankheit you will never rid the world of these handles, I'm sure you are well aware of many others that popped up during and post war about some of the European countries. With respect you have been the biggest knocker of Britain during the whole Brexit business but I chose not to comment at the time Stay safe and
