The extent to which the government and its advisers is out of touch beggars belief sometime. From this morning's briefing we get the gem:
"I can’t imagine a child would ever want to eat something from another child’s lunchbox “.
SMH. I'm failing to see why you are surprised, they will all have been spoon fed by matron or housemaster, come on now know your enemy whoops

I have absolutely no knowledge of Eton, but just to provide a bit of balance, I think you will find that Eton is actually open for non paying students as they are taking in local kids to help key workers. They also are offering free accommodation for key workers who are unable to return home.

Fair play, they have an empty school so they're putting it to good use helping the community. Well done them. Plus of course they can afford to spend enormous amounts of money on distance learning facilities so that their fee-paying charges can continue their education in a low-risk environment. I just did a quick bit of research on Eton. Blimey, it's a significant business, isn't it? £52m in fee income, £12m in Investment incomes, £437m in cash reserves, £700k/year in taxpayer subsidies in the form of an 80% discount on their business rates. That's one rich school. For comparison purposes, a Grammar school of the same size would have an annual budget of around £5.8m (1300 pupils at £4500/year).

That's something I genuinely can't understand. They want to send young children back to school early because they are less likely to catch COVID-19, and if they do, they are less likely to suffer badly from it. But if these kids go trotting off to school and mixing with other kids, won't they be simply acting as a vector for the virus, transmitting it to each other and carrying it back to their homes where they can infect their parents and older siblings?

We're currently making preparations for our kids (yr10 and yr12) to come back in mid to late June. Not sue of the logitics of getting 500+ kids back in, and maintaining social distancing, but we're looking at subject specific days and using communal spaces (theatre/sport hall/gym) rather than classrooms. However, we've also been open throughout, and now more people are going back to work, the numbers of kids we're getting in each day is increasing. Although it's 'supposed' to be key workers only, we're taking anyone who is has a need. Staff are going in on a rota - I'm in on Wednesday. It's a little frustrating as I've not had any interaction with anyone outside my house for 7 weeks, so can guarantee I'm Covid free - after Wednesday, I'll have to go back to square one and see what happens.....
