It’s not just the risks of returning to school, the wider consequences of not sending children to school also have to be factored in.

What do you assume they are?

Is probably worth thinking about. To me some have their tolerance to any risk Set at zero but still drive their cars.

Sumption has been against the lockdown since day one, so no surpise he's still railing against it.

Just had an email from my Mum - apparently my sisters hospital are currently bracing themselves for a post VE day surge. Fingers crossed they've got it wrong.

Getting rid of lockdown would probably be an enormously attractive option to anyone who is able to choose to what extent they have to expose themselves to risk.

Working people who may be compelled to return to work in order to service the requirements of others, maybe without appropriate PPE, may feel differently.

It's all very well for Lord Sumption to declare that he wants to go to the pub, but how might the bar staff feel about him breathing all over them?

And to be honest, if there is not 'hardish' evidence to show that 32 kids and two to three adults in a room is not safe, then what are we all doing in frigging lockdown. My pub on a Friday night is twice the size of my classroom, and we're lucky if there's 20 people in there. smile smile

Seriously, I can't wait to get back into school, see all my kids and get on with my job. This 'remote teaching' thing is doing my head in. I'm getting 200 emails a day (honestly) and it's really hard not being able to support the kids in the usual manner. As you'll appreciate, school is so much more than learning stuff.

Exactly, that invisible input (statwise) is what makes or breaks the whole experience I can remember 3 teachers from my experience of going through the system that made all the difference to my choices.

It is a very underestimated talent and foremost you have to be credible and relevant so no politicians need apply as young adults are very shrewd and honest in these matters..

Best of luck whatever plan evolves.

Reported today that A&E visits are back to their normal levels, pre lockdown.

Australian research in NSW suggests that spread of Covid-19 within NSW schools has been very limited and transmission “appears considerably less than seen for other respiratory viruses, such as influenza”.

They concluded that the data “suggest that children are not the primary drivers of Covid-19 spread in schools or in the community".
This is consistent with data from international studies showing low rates of disease in children and suggesting limited spread among children and from children to adults.

I would expect it to be the same in every westernised country. If proven then the teaching unions in the UK are behaving irresponsibly.

And if not proven, are you therefore saying they are behaving responsibly?

What should they do while they're waiting for proof? Act with caution, or throw caution to the wind?

The school issue will only be resolved after the event.

I doubt many Australian schools are laid out like inner city Victorian buildings, and so even across the UK, the fall-out from going back will vary across sites, probably dramatically.

As a teacher, how happy would you be spending five days a week in a building housing dozens of kids? And especially when a number of teachers will be in the risk age groups.....

In the end, we spin the wheel, and hope for the best.

I would not expect any other point of view from a Farage supporter.
