• It is believed that children are probably less susceptible to contracting coronavirus than adults. The evidence is not conclusive, but this appears to be where the data is leading. In terms of transmission – the extent to which a child with the virus infects other individuals – there is evidence from other countries that it may be lower than for adults, but the data is limited.

This may be true but the view taken in Italy is that a crowded school would be a perfect incubator for the virus, and all those children have grandparents in the at risk age group. It also has to be said that not all of the people in the parent's age group survive the virus.

I think it is obvious there is blatant and intentional ambiguity in the information provided to the unions....... smile smile

Just had the message that we're back in on the 22nd June working with Year 10's on subject day basis. It'll be for an intensive 3hr session - for example, Monday they'll come in from 9 till 12 for History, Tuesday will be 9 till 12 Maths etc. then they'll go home afterwards so no breaks or canteen facilities where we would be unable to police social distancing.

We have a two page document on what the school is doing to try and keep teachers safe - maximum 15 pupils in a session/teacher exclusion zone/gloves for resources/72hr quarantine on checking kids work etc. We have a very supportive and compassionate management team, who genuinely care about the welfare of staff (I could give hundreds of examples of this, and equally horror stories of colleagues at different schools/acadamies).

As a result, we are not a very 'unionised' workforce - goodwill goes a very long way, and staff are equally supportive of the school and the school community. We are reasonably unique in this approach, whilst still supporting our respective unions when it comes to national issues (usually with the support of the management),

Fingers crossed it all works......

Obviously all above is dependant on the next Government announcement on 28th May.

I hope it all works out Phil!

Meanwhile I'd seen something along these lines from the online IET journal last week ref: the Coronavirus App presently on test on IoW - now it has appeared on BBS:

Like Graham, I really hope this works out OK for you Phil.

You touch on a good point. Good leadership is vital in any organisation and it sounds as though you are very fortunate. In turn, you students are also fortunate.

I suspect that, as you say, this is unusual rather than the norm in schools - just as it is in the private sector.

Thank you.

I'm into the petri dish tomorrow but only a few kids and staff.

Irritated they don't offer the antibody test to all teachers over 50.
If you have had asymptomatic COVID then you are immune and cannot spread it, so you can go into class very safely.
This is the one our friends used, they discount 50% for NHS staff, why not for teachers?

As a keyworker, regardless of age, I can book a home test or go to a test centre:

Covid Tests

Thankfully, we have a test centre in MK too.

From my experience today, kids are physically unable to self distance....

EDIT - realised these are not antibody tests.
