Hood down and frame strapped down but rattled like mad

Do I recall seeing a sort of rubberised separation implement to stop the bars vibrating against each other. I think similar to some treacles use to separate their toes while they paint their nails............so I’ve heard innocent

Had same problem. Cut down some self adhesive foam strips (circa 3mm thick) into thin strips and stuck between frame poles. Now silent.

Depends on the car. It could be better to drill out the rivets & replace with nuts & bolts.

Is an easy up or trad hood? Different solutions. Mine is a trad hood with drop pivots and solved it eventually by trial and error. Tying down, cushioning and making sure pivot securing bolts were tight.

It’s a trad hood frame. Not easy style or an a cantilever.

It’s nut and bolted. The bars vibrate against each other

Yes this can drive a person mad. I have a system of saddle leather pads held with double sided tape placed where the stays bang together and velcro straps to hold it all tightly so that the hood bounces 'as one'. Once the hood is folded the velcro straps get tied around the frame stays on each side. I had a maddening rattle from one of the washers between two stays, for this I hammered the rivet tighter and that worked. My 4 seater is not as silent as a Roller but it is so much more quiet that it was.

Yes a strip of Velcro in and out of the frame plus tightening down with the standard leather straps as fitted to the car, seems to work for me. The cantilever drop pivots that I have also add another tightening dimension once the hood is dropped. If you haven't't got the drop pivots, worthwhile fitting. Circa £70 from John Taylor.

I think I am the winner: 400000 Km without a hood -on motorbikes in summer and winter!

We bougt the 4/4 because it HAS A HOOD (for bad weather) ;-)

Each on his own!
