Hi,
I want to drill some holes in the inner wings, what drill bit do you need to stainless steel?
I tried the normal metal ones as they are hopeless

I've used these DeWalt bits with some success but not cheap. The flute angle is a bit aggressive and tends to pull through in thin steel so make sure there is nothing vulnerable on the other side of the wing. Brake pipes, wires, hoses etc. DeWalt drill bit

Plenty of lubricant as well, currently using Rocol RTD spray or Trefolex

I use Rocol RTD (reaming, tapping, drilling) now but in the machine shop in the 70’, Trefolex was used and it had a peculiar smell about it which I liked.

Any descent HSS drill will do considering the small amount of material you will be removing, but you do need to give the cutting edges 0 degree rake by grinding the faces of the lips this will reduce the amount of snatch you will get when drilling through. It would be best if you could clamp a piece of scrap plate behind where you are drilling through, this will help.
P.S. don't buy something cheap from B&Q get a Dormer drill

Helps to start small with a pilot hole & go up in sizes, the cone shaped & stepped cone drills are good on thin panels too

Presto of Sheffield do a range called Hi-nox especially for Stainless. It features a wider cutting angle, a tighter helix and a stubbier flute, works very well. If you struggle to find them locally PM me and I’ll sort you out with some.

+1 You really don’t want to generate any heat or the stainless steel work hardens and wrecks the bit. I learned this the hard way. Set your drill on its very slowest setting and be patient.
