Canada just extended their closure. Which means we will get a refund on our August trip. Mrs F is on the phone sorting it now. We had been waiting for someone to lose their nerve so we could get a refund as we did not want to lose the money we had paid out (40th Wedding Anniversary trip - we had rather exceeded ourselves and created a very expensive holiday). Silversea and Trailfinders look like doing the decent thing to their credit.

Having been on several cruises we have learned what to look for that suits us.
We avoid the family friendly ships. Nothing against children but........
Ports of call.....we have been to a few a couple of times but do our own thing and avoid the organised tours unless something stands out. There are only so many churches that you can enjoy before they blur.
It is the off the beaten track places that attract.
There are some very good offers for 2021 cruises popping up. :is viewing them but we have Morgan catch-up trips do fit in.
Maybe we will be tempted.

Quite fancy a cruise around the UK - maybe Guernsey, Scilly and Scottish Isles - Viking are looking at it.

'There is a glimmer of hope for Britons looking for their cruise fix this summer after Viking teased the possibility of operating summer sailings around the UK.

The tentative plans first appeared in an email to customers, when the cruise line said it could “be a wonderful opportunity to explore some beautiful destinations close to home”.

Dates and details on the itineraries can’t be revealed yet, a spokesperson told The Telegraph, with the focus right now on “feasibility and asking UK guests to register their interest”.

I have seen a couple of Round Britain cruises advertised over the years. Usually by the “smaller” companies. Literally a circuit of the UK. No foreign ports.
On one cruise we went to Norway, Iceland, Faroes, Orkney. Orkney was great. We visited the Royal Oak site, the Italian POW chapel (nissen hut decorated) Highland Park Distillery, Lerwick. It was a great way to visit some lesser tourist destinations for a taste of what is out there. A golfing mate lived on Hoy in the Orkneys for a few years and he described his time there.

I expect there will be PLENTY of space onboard, flowers or a contribution, this is an insane idea at this juncture to get the petri dishes out already.

Doris has shown that money is more important than lives so if they get some takers they both deserve what's incoming, it really isn't rocket science is it

In peacetime I agree, we would often see the Royal family swanning around the Hebridean Isles on the Britannia going back 30 years and it is a lovely area to explore in safer times.

We have seen some ex Calmac ferries used for just such around UK excursions and they look smaller and a little more exclusive judging by the punters walking around Dartmouth once they dock for their walkabout. Noble Caledonia note the date of recommencement..

I can cope with Plymouth to Roscoff. I’ve even braved Plymouth to Santander.
However, I tried a cruise once! Never again.

Same her done most of the ferries into Europe whilst working Esbjerg, Hamburg and Bremerhaven (were the best) and most of our off islands but I'm always relieved to get off not having yacked.
A cruise would be torture to me banged up with all those people, each to his own.

It is not my ideal holiday either Richard But we went to Norway last year & it was the best way to see the Fjords. We were very lucky as it was hot & sunny.
I don't think I would do another.

That makes sense John, having written what I did about being banged up with all those people I should explain it's a very selective thing I would have been more than happy to set off on a cruise with the exceptional company we enjoyed at the Walnut Tree that evening

Myself and the Long haired Admiral enjoy a cruise with a couple of friends. But as I've told my friends I cannot see the way ahead for a hundred people on a ship. I believe it is like Bill Gates said " the world will not go back to as it was until a vaccine is made available for the whole world" . This Covid 19 will keep on affecting people as long as people are daff, ie the beach crowds!
