Same her done most of the ferries into Europe whilst working Esbjerg, Hamburg and Bremerhaven (were the best) and most of our off islands but I'm always relieved to get off not having yacked.
A cruise would be torture to me banged up with all those people, each to his own. They are not for everyone - I don’t mind a week or so every year. Some love em. We were on a Tui now Marella (think Butlins at sea) and at one of the evening meals the manager gave a thank you speech to an elderly lady who was sat on a largish table on her own wearing a black ball gown who after her husband had died had taken up almost permanent residence on this particular ship. She sailed on no other and had racked up fifty trips. Then we had to give her a round of applause and all the waiters came out banging saucepans and paraded round her table and then I had another glass of wine.

That is a lovely honest tale - plenty of wine must help such happenings.. I just rejoice in the differences I genuinely do

I’ve only been on two cruises in my life, both were thoroughly enjoyable, like any holiday, they are what you make of it. The first was my honeymoon, the second my fiftieth birthday, any shortcomings were easily overlooked, but I very much doubt I’ll do either of those three things ever again.

Star clippers are the only ones that could maybe tempt me. They were designed by an old mate and customer of mine, Robert McFarlane, and I have to say, are a magnificent sight with sails set.

I have a German Harley Parts Dealer Friend (who has her shop in Yorkshire, unlikely as it seems ) ... Who's annual holiday is to join a Sail Training ship for one or other of its voyage legs ..... she thoroughly enjoys every minute of it ...... not much like a traditional Cruise though.

Anything involving crowds of people is not for us. Cruising in any shape or form has no appeal. We don't do theatre, cinema, pubs, well, pubs as a last resort. A perfect day is a walk where you see a handful of people. That might be coast path, or highlands. I'm an antisocial git.  Each to their own.

And I get seasick.
