Would it be conceivable that the considerable energy, enthusiasm and resources of the BLM demonstrators turn their attention to modern day slavery? Everything from oppressed opium farmers to Asian sweat shops, from sex workers to the populations of despotic Dictators...……..something that is actually and really happening in their lifetime, not 400 years ago in history that cannot be changed.

Would it be too much to hope?

Apologies for being contentious.

Every so often a thread comes along in which I start multiple times to try to frame a rational response, only to give up thinking "This is a waste of time".

This is one.

The BLM movement is directly focused on things that are actually and really happening in their lifetime. As others said earlier, don't let the barking dogs make you think otherwise.

There are plenty of other organisations and movements dedicated fighting for the opressed as you mention. I imagine many of the demonstrators are actively involved in those campaigns as well. It is easy to get involved in many of them (referenced a couple below)

Hope for Justice

Anti Slavery

There's also a short article that discuss how discrimination is at the heart of slavery:

Discrimination is the fuel that powers slavery

Not at all, that is the message coming over on the thread that we are here now and in a position to change the outcomes of many less fortunate in the world and yet is seems easier to bang on about the alleged historical misdemeanors, well that's far easier and grabs the wasters (media) attention.

Agreed. And unfortunately they are the barking dogs that so easily guide the sheep..

Well, I have just come home from a nice day out with some other car friends and, over an anti-social distance pic-nic, we had this discussion. I am really heartened by reading this thread as I was feeling as though perhaps I had got hold of the wrong end of the stick again, but no. Thank goodness for right ( correct that is ) thinking TM members. Why do we, the (not so silent ) majority put up with these total bar- stewards ? What's done is done, my only hope is that, with the total lack of Government intervention in putting a stop to all this desecration ( nothing against peaceful protest ) these prats will find another band wagon to jump on to very soon and who knows, it may even be a worthwhile one like stop hunger or build more houses or something radical like that.
I'm now going back out into the garage to polish my front suspension to calm down.

Here for a good time not a long time!!

There is real trouble brewing I think.

Careful Bonesie, there are some Black activists trying to ban the use of the word "thugs", huh? well apparently during the 2015 Baltimore riots the perpetrators were regularly referred to as thugs. I even read one woman saying that people might as well use the N-word !! Perhaps we should ban the word rioters as well? The world's gone, or at least going, mad.

My wife is Black (French, born in Guadeloupe of a Guadeloupian mother and father of Indian ancestry. She's lived in the UK for 27 years.) she doesn't like being referred to as "a person of colour" or BAME. She is vehemently against the violence and tearing down of statues. This morning we were talking about Churchill and she said that he probably would have been considered racist today but in those bygone years he was considered patriotic, and he did so much good for the country. There is undoubtedly still quite a lot of racism in our world but pulling down statues isn't going to change that.

There are some activists - just jumping on the band wagon on - (desperately) trying to "build-up" support for a cause - that might not even be the BLM......they are simply anti establishment.

In context they are a very very small % of the population.

Most of my friends - are very much echoing - what has been written/said on here and are totally "cheesed off" (the polite version!) by this!
