When you read this, you can only be confused. From the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. What do those responsible in Bulgaria think? Attract cheap holidaymakers who bring the virus back to all their countries of origin? Do they think that everything is good again just because it is ordered?
The article: Bulgaria is relaxing further measures to protect itself against the virus despite the recent rapid rise in corona infections. As of this Monday, the obligation to wear masks in closed public places - such as shops - is to be abolished. In addition, discos, nightclubs and piano bars will be allowed to open again from 15 June. Then parties in closed rooms with up to ten people as well as sporting events, congresses and conferences under corona conditions will also be allowed.
In addition, Bulgaria will also further relax its entry requirements from 15 June, in accordance with regulations published on Sunday. Protective masks in public transport, pharmacies and clinics will continue to be mandatory until the end of June. The tourist country on the Black Sea, however, does not want to open the summer season until July 1. But it is still unclear when the large hotels in the tourist strongholds will resume operations.
In Bulgaria, there were 555 new coronavirus infections between 8 and 14 June, a weekly record since the beginning of the pandemic. The country is probably in a second wave of corona, according to the Chief Inspector of Health and member of the crisis team in Sofia, Angel Kunchev. A total of 3266 cases of corona virus have been detected in the Balkan country with a population of almost seven million by Sunday. A total of 172 people died.

I'll confess to feeling a little spun out after trying to read some logic into that article and failing miserably and resorting to my 18 year old single malt Heinz, for medicinal purposes

Probably not a good time to go there for a holiday!

We fully expect the same thing to happen here in Italy. People are total idiots, particularly the majority young people who are showing a complete disregard for the law and a disrespect for others. I put it down to most of them being a bunch of selfish spoiled brats, largely from single child families whose parents and grandparents have grown up in the prosperous post war boom period. I wonder what they will do when the money runs out.
Clearly they don't give a damn what they bring home to their loving parents and grandparents.

Peter, I have to disagree - at least when I have a look at the situation in Austria where the elderly seem to ignore regulations for masks and hygiene more than youngsters do. If the young do not behave one has to blame their parents who did a miserable job in growing them up properly. One more thing to encounter is the different feeling for time and duration. When I was young and had to wait for something like the end of a school year one month was an endless period of time. Now even a year rushes by like an express train. One has to accept that children see things different. It is no disrespect, it is their youth.

Peter, Hannes, in your own way you are both right, regarding the youth, even if it sounds contradictory when I say it like that.
We see here with Bulgaria an example of the interaction between, on the one hand, what I believe to be currently irresponsible official relaxation and, on the other hand, a corresponding group of people who would like nothing more than to follow it. There will always be this sort of followers, but states should not be so impatient.

I can see these young people, as Peter describes them, but I would also be a little cautious to say that they are the majority. Of course the disobedient ones attract much more attention, also in the media. And there are also enough middle-aged and older people who do not always stick to everything that is necessary.

My three daughters couldn’t be more conscientious and take particular care over our health Of course there are young people like your daughters, I did say the majority, not all. Obviously many have been brought up to be respectful of others, conscientious and caring. In Italy the expression would be that they are "ben educati" - well educated. We do get a particular view here because it is a lakeside town that attracts a lot of day trippers, but we also see it with the local youth. Many people who are visiting, young and old, seem to think that the legal obligation to wear a mask does not apply once you are on the lake shore or in the public park. Add to that those who will happily jog or ride a bike without a mask through a crowded piazza with the excuse that they are exercising therefore exempt. We are treated to sections of the park and the children's games area roped off because the council would have an obligation to clean them, we see the end of school "farewell" in the piazza with all the children socially distanced and wearing masks, and then 15 minutes later we see them all crowded together and 90% or more without masks. The police don't even bother to say anything, let alone issue fines. If you dare to suggest to any of these that they should wear a mask they will tell you that they are not afraid of getting the virus, none of them seem to understand that the mask is to protect others if they are an asymptomatic carrier. Part of this is due to the publication of the fact that those most at risk are older people. They never seem to think that they have older parents and grandparents as do all their friends.

Peter, let's agree on one thing: "people are complete idiots" - at least plenty of them.
Many see stupidity as a human right, not as the problem.
