Apologies Richard, I had just picked up your request relative to indicator issues, in the active thread section and had not read the whole thread...Duh..! Whether the same wiring codes are still used as they once were I have no idea, though I guess if you are looking at the indicator wiring you may be able to confirm the colour coding in use, if any. As for diodes if seeking a simple explanation on how they operate as ever the interweb is your friend.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lep5e3KMdYGood luck.

The auto electrician arrived this morning and was away within the hour. He disconnected all the cable connections under the dash where indicator lighting cables were involved. There was one connection where the spades were not well covered by the rubber covers and it had probably shorted on the metal brackets welded to the roll bar. So the hazards worked. Next, the indicators. The short had fried the new electronic flasher unit but replacing that with the bi-metallic strip unit had it all working again.
I spent the afternoon putting it all back together again.
Tomorrow Joanna, Gally (the whippet) and I will be making up for lost time.

+1 Richard. So guess you ended up with the LED units you wanted with ballast resistors and OE electro-mechanical flasher unit all working happily together

I am back to square one with the indicators. Original bulbs and flashers but I have fitted LED's in the headlamps, LED sidelamps connected up (There were side lamps but not connected. What is the point of side lamps if they don't work?) LED brake lights/tail lamps. I will try again with the indicators when the new electronic flasher unit arrives and if it fails I will stick with the originals. Thanks to each and every one of you for your help and assistance. What a great forum this is!
