I love my S2, and will probably never replace it for another Morgan, it is a keeper. Yes, the clutch is on the heavy side, but I like that and I am not bothered by it (strong guy!). With left foot nowhere to go but sit on the clutch pedal, it is good it is a bit heavy.
Indeed 1st gear ratio not good. Box could shift a bit smoother. What I do not like is the dual mass flywheel. As Steward says, you learn to live with it. The Williams remap is a must imo.
I drive in winter too, and the engine heat, makes it very comfy.

I have fond memories of our S2. It had a very good heater when we travelled to France in March/April. I got a factory remap because the engine had a very pronounced revhang. With this measure the power had also become more lively and the engine became more willing to rev. Another plus point that should not be underestimated: The S2 has a very full warm and smooth sound with the original exhaust. The S1 had a much thinner sound, even if it was otherwise a good car. The S3 Sports roared so nerve-rackingly that I had let quieter silencers built.

To be honest, I got used to the gearshift very quickly. My copy had a nice feeling when engaging the gears. There was a little bit of resistance, but I found it positive when you put the gearshift lever exactly. The gearshift doesn't have to be like without any mechanical feeling at all. Yes, the first gear was too short...but so what, it's a powerful cruiser that likes to see second gear quickly. The S2 doesn't want to be an agro traffic light winner. I subjectively had the impression that despite less horsepower the engine is more elastic at the bottom end than the S1 engine.

About the stiff clutch. Is it possible that the S2 also has an additional pedal spring, like my 4/4? This can be removed and then the clutch pedal is very comfortable. But you must not let your foot rest on the pedal anymore.

From my point of view there is nothing at all against the S2. I liked it very much. To be honest, I only bought a new S3 at that time because I found the slightly wider front cool. I should have liked to keep the S2. But that's how some of us feel...it's only when something good is given away that you sometimes realize how good it was.

.

Good point that Heinz, even the factory eventually stopped fitting the return spring on the later 3.7's too

Hi Colin Simmo here,

Glad to hear your doing ok, still fighting top man.

I thought I would put digit to keyboard on few points as I have a very rare bit of down time.

I'm sorry you didn't find the price of my QR to your liking, you were not alone that's why I'm no longer making them. The joys of design and development for small volume cars.

I am and have continued to convert Morgans to Easy~fit~hoods this is my 25th year. I fondly remember back in 1995 when Charles Morgan used to call in to my workshop to see how the development of the new hood was coming on. He was always very enthusiastic and positive. Even though Peter stayed in the car outside he paid my invoice promptly!

As far as the header rail kit only, yes I'm still making these I completed one only this last week actually. I have NEVER just cut the studs off the frame and stuck tape on, mine are brand new chrome on brass frames. I have many old studded frames I have removed funnily enough when I moved out of Colwall where you visited I weighed in 1000 frames seemed a shame but no one wanted them.
All the best.
Steve.

Hi Steve

Yes still dodging where I can, consultant seemed quite positive at my last review, no cure and none has ever been offered it was too late for that but the ‘buying time’ is working for now so that’s all good.

Can’t remember ever not liking the price as I never saw a price? Where we left it is you said you had developed the earlier one for cars without the horn push in the middle of the wheel but it was a bugger to sort out a quick release hub with a good horn push connection but you were working on something and said you would send me a prototype to do an evaluation on for you. I never got anything then when Julia Woolgar visited you to buy a sewing machine she said she mentioned it to you, as I’d asked her to do, and you said it was imminent to go out again nothing arrived.

I did see talk of the later type many months after that but by then I had sold the +4 as I thought my Morgan days were done.

Apologies about the frame confusion but that’s how I recall you saying you did them when I was at your workshop last time but yes it was years ago.

Just to be clear if you read my post I never said you cut off the studs? I think the expression I used was you removed them, I do know about drilling the frames if you recall we did my +8 together when we fitted sun visors and you taught me how to do it.

Glad your still doing good things for Morgans.

All the best
Colin

Steve, will you be making a tonneau cover for the new cars? Everyone will want one won't they?

Steve

You made an excellent Clear View wheel with QR for my Three Wheeler and the price was lower than the equivalents from Moto Lita etc. It's a pity you are no longer offering Morgan wheels.

Hi, I'm still making them as fast as I can, I just do not advertise any more. I'm not sure if/how I can post photo's of my latest wheels? So perhaps I'll ask my Grandaughter
