I had a similar issue, could start car without ignition key being turned.

Associated with this were frequent fuse failures.

Auto electrician found too many circuits feeding through Multiple fuses so did a bit of rewiring to a separate Set of upgraded fuses.

Stopped all mystery failures and no longer can start without key.

May pay to see if you have any blown fuses, I could lose one with no issues. Can’t remember which ones they were. Age thing

Can I ask what year your car is, and whether it has the immoboliser? Hoping to find a common link if I can..

Thanks - was yours related to the hazard switch or was it just a live start button?

You have just knocked 8 years of the age of your car Nigel laugh2 . I remember looking at your cars colour when I was ordering mine and wanted to see it but it was rather a long way to go for a look.

Speaking to the factory it sounds like this is a known fault, something to do with a resistor/diode problem in the ignition/hazard system..
