Jon, I assume your car is still very much Ford based? I wonder if a Ford dealer could improve your speedo accuracy? There are many parameters that can be adjusted on the Ford ECU’s using the dealer software including the rolling diameter of the tyres and axle ratio.

It's the 3.7 Roadster, so the speedo is fed off the ECU / BCU combo for its readings, although I assume packaged as Ford (Mustang), access for tweaking is locked - many have tried, even some of the more innovative dealers and none seem to be able to crack it

Hence they can't cure the rev hang either banghead

Well spotted John and the location on the harness does suggest its connector is at front of car so tying in with your front wheel location assumption (seem to remember DaveW referring to such). Checked cables from it and as far as I can tell they go direct to VDO master gauge connector on dash. Could not find any similarly coded cables going to ECU or BCU suggesting it is a closed circuit to speedo.

Thanks to everyone for all the replies and insight. Just the technical knowledge I was hoping for from the forum, albeit not with the outcome I was hoping for. So I've spotted a better, GPS display (hopefully more easily read than the one I tried already) and ordered that. I'll report back in due course (a few weeks probably) if it works out ok.
