Roger, there should be no new limits of bump travel if my thought is right. The damper is 10 mm longer if fully compressed but the removed lowering blocks add 19mm to the overall more extended working point of the damper (if that makes sense). In other words the new damper has 9mm more headroom now at a same bump situation as with the old configuration with the LBs even if it is longer.
It's interesting what your findings are Heinz. I've been a bit concerned about the firm ride over bumpy surfaces (thus the reason for starting this thread). I checked yesterday on my bump stop clearance and I cannot push my little finger between the axle and the bumpstop when I load the car with my weight (65kg). So thats about 8mm which doesnt seem much. The ride can certainly be jarring at times. I might look at reducing the bump stop height as you have done.
John, you're absolutely right. My son has already criticized the problem. It's a good idea of yours to add some hose coating to these chafed areas for protection. After I remove the rust.

Yes, 8mm is not so very much a gap, thelastgizmo, Because language is sometimes not so definite, just to ensure we are talking about the same, considering this rubber we are addressing the rebound stop which indirectly can cause the same harsh bump feel as it was the case with my car.

Brilliant piece of investigation Heinz. It looks like my situation is the same as yours. Except I have the thin (6mm) rebound rubbers which replaced the thick rubbers when the springs were changed.
I'm due to see New Elms tomorrow to try to sort out some dampers which enough travel and long enough to fit at full extension. We might have to use thicker rubbers like you have.
