I ordered a few parts from an S&S affiliate this morning. The reseller informed me that he had been made aware that S&S will no longer be producing or selling anything X wedge. S&S have sold all X wedge IP (to include parts manufacturing and their distribution) to an “over seas” company.
If this is true, then S&S will have nothing to with the motor and it’s world wide homologation (or lack there of) after the 1st of Jan 2021.
Ouch! That may well mean that spares for the S&S are going to become a problem. I did wonder when S&S told me last August that they were no longer making the big bore kit for the X-Wedge. I would assume the overseas company is likely to located in China or India and the engine will be for industrial/agricultural use. I wonder if it is worth contacting Morgan to ask what arrangements they have made to ensure a continuity of engine spares. Wilson Sign me up for some X-Wedge powered lawn mower please 😂

Bunny, My sentiments exactly.
I was also told that there was a relatively larger custom American Motorcycle company that has been a “large” consumer of the x wedge, they were told to contact the new owner for all parts, to include simple things like cam belts. I can’t even speculate what this may mean for warranty repairs.
This company and all of the larger S&S parts distributers have been locked by NDA from identifying the new owner.

The X-Wedge doesn't get Euro 5 because the manufacturer doesn't want it. They would do it if they really wanted to. Even the russian motorcycle brand Ural has now managed to overcome the hurdle for the boxer engine. And they only build a few hundred engines a year. Ural is a much smaller company than S&S.

Is there a two litre air-cooled engine that currently passes Euro 5?
I may be naive, but I find it difficult to believe that MMC or KH have not stockpiled enough spares to cover servicing and warranty repairs for some time to come.

BMW 1.8 litre boxer! Harley-Davidson Milwaukee 8 will made it, 1868cc. The Indian Chief with 1890 cc should also make it.

That bmw R18 would be very nice if they could figure out the adapter.

Like most modern cars, I suspect these Euro5 engines will have all sorts of electronics the manage injection/ignition/emissions and these will likely integrated into sensors and systems in the rest of the vehicle via CANBUS type links. All of this makes putting a different engine in a vehicle not designed for it a lot more complex than a metal adaptor.

Just reading the Roy Fedden biography - in 1919 he built a 3-cylinder air-cooled radial when at Cosmos for a new post-war light car. His was 1.2l but if the G56 team used their Backburne experience (and cylinders - HD?) that might extrapolate to 1.5l, 85bhp, 80lbft... about right? Of course mounting might be a challenge

Thanks LightSpeed. Really good to know. I was starting to think I should sell my M3W for fear the engine would become unserviceable in the future.
