The first model is absolutely useless, as you cannot see anything
The second one does not vibrate and looks cool, but also somewhat limits your visibility

"they all do that" is of course the right answer :-)
There have been several previous discussions around this, but I don't believe I've heard of a perfect solution. I wonder if adding some weight in a strategic place on the current mirror would change the vibration frequency enough to mitigate the problem? Perhaps some experiments with temporarily wrapping some heavy solder around the end of the mirror might be a way to see if it changes anything.

I have thought the center mounted rear view mirror might vibrate less, or so I was told, but it might be worth a try. OR, a rear facing camera that has image stabilization, that would work.

Quite a few people have changed to your second option.
I tried them but could not get on with them, when adjusted properly the driver side view is partially obscured by your shoulder and I drive with the passenger tonneau cover on which flaps ups and down obscuring your view.

Jonathan,
I have the second type of side mirror you linked and it does vibrate much less than the original one (and looks so much better IMHO), but still is somewhat 'fuzzy' at certain RPMs. I find they work just fine for visibility to the rear flanks, but not well at all to the direct rear. I then mounted a small center mirror between the flyscreens which works very well with no apparent vibration. Pretty much the only mirror I use in practice, as looking over ones shoulder to check the flanks is easy enough to do in the M3W.

my center "dash mounted" mirror is great in that I can see what is directly behind me (unless the rack is full), but down the highway the car behind me headlights make little "O's"

A GPS with a Backup camera might be the best. Just leave it in backup mode unless you are lost.

All interesting stuff and glad I asked. Thinking that a centre mounted rear view mirror might be the way to go. Tempted to get option 2 too. Decisions decisions.

Adding a very large "penny washer" to the mounting stud of the mirrors (we used 38mm dia) sandwiching the body skin dramatically reduced the vibration for us - there are still short periods of resonance (different rpm for each) but they remain very useable
